Telling your parents about Lucid Dreaming

Has anyone had any luck telling your parents about Lucid Dreaming? For those who have told their parents. How did your parents react when you told them you were into Lucid Dreaming? Were your parents ok with you keeping a Dream Journal and practicing Lucid Dreaming?

Yah, why would they not be okay with it? LOL, my grandma thought I was doing Witchcraft until I explained to her about dreams and sleep cycles then she thought I was crazy. But yeah, I always talk about LDing to my mom ha.

From all the posts that I've read on DV regarding telling parents about LD, I can't remember one single positve experience that anyone has ever had.

The parents were often dismissive that LD is even possible, thought LD was harmful and tried to prevent LD from even being attempted, or thought the dreamer was crazy.

You don't need to convince anybody, or prove that it's possible. Keep it to yourself.

lol I tried to tell my parents and other family members but they are either unbelieving or not interested. I have never been asked to stop it, though.

Why would anybody be bothered by it? Ooooh, knowing what you're dreaming, soo horrible. LOL. In all seriousness, though, my mom knows but doesn't care too much. We tell one another our dreams, though, so it's fun to exchange experiences. She congratulated me about my lucid this morning LOL

I first brought it up a few years ago, when I had my first lucid dream. I was like, "oh my gosh, I had a dream last night where I knew I was dreaming!" And my parents said it was called a lucid dream. I didn't care much about it until last year, where I actually got into the whole hobby.

The first time I brought it up (when I was into the hobby), they thought I was a bit wierd, but they didn't make me stop. I mean, they know that you can't stop being aware and becoming lucid in a dream unless you completely stop altogether... And they couldn't stop me anyways. I mean, it's not like they can read my mind when I'm dreaming.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I did not know that nobody got any postive feedback when they told their parents about it, the only thing my mom asked me about it was," You're not taking any pills to do this are you?" And I was like yeah, it requires crack and a crack pipe lol.

I tell my mom about lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis all the time. She's almost had a few LDs herself.

Yeah, I´ve talked alot about it with my mother, although I don´t think she truly understands what it is. It´s really annoying.

I have this huge urge to spread the word about lucid dreaming to everyone, but no one seem to get it. It´s like giving pictures to blind people.

My mom is fine with it and said it sounded interesting. She worried a little that it might be harmful, but just told me to be careful.

@Horsey101 Seen that one before, and I haven't found anything to point to it being harmful. Here's the main topic I started to have my questions answered: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=90259

Well, now you have: I told my mom and dad about lucid dreaming about a month after I really got into it, getting library books on it and everything, and they started telling me about their dreams, finding that LDs were interesting - not interesting enough for them to ask about how to have them regularly, but they were cool with it and still treat me the same way as they ever did.

You don't need to convince anybody, or prove that it's possible. Keep it to yourself.
I agree that the OP (well, any oneironaut, really) doesn't need to convince anyone one way or another about LDing, not that they need to prove it's possible to anyone but themselves, but I disagree with keeping something that one is interested in to themselves. They should tell people they trust and respect about it - friends, if not their family. It's bad to keep something like that hidden, cause you'll probably never learn about your friends' LDs if they have them, 'cause they'll keep it to themselves as well until someone shows them it's safe to talk about it.

LDing isn't something to be ashamed of, so don't keep it to yourself.

my parents were fine with it...dont know why anyone's wouldnt be.

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

I've talked to my grandmother about it on several occasions, she has some interest in it. My dad seems ok with it, but he's uninterested. I typically just avoid the topic with him. I've only discussed it with a few other people, whose interest was mostly marginal.

I tell my father about my lucid dreaming experiences a lot, and he gets a kick out my my stories. I kinda get the feeling he wishes he could do it, but he's just too lazy to haha .

I've told my father about it, he's mildly interested in it. My Aunt is a little worried about it, tells me to be careful. My brother wants to try, is too lazy to.

I know what you mean. I've exlpained it to her, but I know she doesn't really understand. I've told one of my friends, and she just looked at me like she was trying to understand, but was confused as hell. I don't tell anyone other then my mother now, because I know they wouldn't understand.

i've vaguely told my parents, and some friends, but i don't dare go into detail about it, would be too much confusion for them.

I tried telling my mum about lucid dreams, but she dismisses them as 'nonsense'. In fact she hates talking about dreams (or TV, or books, or movies, or the internet, or anything remotely fun) because she is way too busy thinking about 'serious' things. She is waaaaaay too serious jeez.

      That's what I'm wondering...
I tell them it's being aware you are dreaming and having control over it, but they just look at me in a strange, confused way...

hah, I got mom into this, but sadly she doens't have enough time to try it regularly. Anyway, I just told her about controlling dreams, she took it normal, I didn't like DJs before, so not to worry anything about.
