If you are aiming for a DILD, just doing RCs will not help much.

Try to add some daytime awarness and mantras. Collection of techniques for DILD.

Besides the practice, your will, intent and excitement are important factors. But how long it will take YOU, nobody can predict.

The good news is, that even before you get your first LD, you will notice increase in your dream recall (if you keep up with your DJ), having more vivid and perhaps more interesting dreams. You may also notice that you have more awareness in your regular dreams and you are thinking logically, even talking about lucid dreaming.

In the above article you will read about RCs and mantras. So you practice them during day, just before you go to sleep and then you can do a few of them when you wake up at night.

If you like some personalized help, join me in DILD class., or join any other class in DV Academy.

Practice, think about your dreams, be thankfull for them and KNOW that you can do it, and you will be revarded. Happy dreams

I would listen to Gab. There are lots of other tutorials on here, and don't be afraid to try something new, it might just be exactly what you need. Don't try to do too much, but I would recommend learning about LDing as much as possible through this site and books.

how can i take the time after I wake up to really set my mind to become lucid in my next dream
You want to think about, watch, or read whatever it is that makes you want to be lucid in the first place. What inspires you to try and lucid dream. Lots of people like the matrix or movies like that. I personally love all my dreams. I think about the dreams I recently had or something like that.

what else can i do? how do i know if im making progress or not??
Meditation is really good, I would keep at that. I would recommend waking up after every REM cycle because this increases awareness and dream recall.
You should know if you are making progress if your dreams are more vivid and you are in more control. For instance, a lot of people just watch their bodies in their dreams, just walking around doing something it seems they were per-programed to do. My dreams (especially now) I may be in a different environment than normal, but I am just walking around like I normally do, thinking through things like normal, at that time it just seems normal for a rhino to be talking to me and singing Christmas carols, haha.

If you are starting now, you should make a commitment to do this for as long as it takes. Count the cost now instead of backing out later. My biggest piece of advice.

Good luck! I wish you many delightful lucids. Enjoy normal dreams. PM me if you wish for more of my advice, .

No one knows when you will have your first lucid dream, it varies greatly between individuals. Some people have a lucid dream the night after they had just learned of lucid dreaming, others take months since they first heard of it.

As for your RC's, you need to understand it's not just the amount of RC's you do every day. It's also about how you feel when you do them, you really need to have a emotional conection to your RC's, otherwise you do them like a robot. And that won't help you when it comes to lucid dreaming. It has to MEAN something to you.
The best way I can explain this is by comparing doing RC's and breathing, when you breath you almost never notice you are breathing unless you really concentrate on it, this is similar to how RC's work. If you just "do" RC's like a souless robot every five minutes, then when you do them in a dream you may not even notice (like when you breath). Infact, if they don't mean anything to you, they may never even appear in your dreams.
However, if you truly concentrate on them, when they truly mean something to you, then they will make themselve apparent to you in your dreams.
It's not the amount you do, it's the meaning behind them and the consistency in which you do them.
Atleast that's how I see it.

My Lucid Dreaming Motto - "I have walked upon the the surface of a burning star. Observed events so infinitesimal and instantaneous that they can barely be described as having occurred at all. You... you're just a dream character. And this world's most powerful dream character poses no more threat to me than it's smartest cupcake." - Dr. Manhattan (kinda)

It varies from person to person on when you will get your first lucid dream. It may be a week, a month, several months, etc. As long as you stay dedicated and consistent you will eventually get one.
