Thumbs up Overcoming fears with Lucidity?

Hello! I have a question concerning overcoming fears with Lucid Dreams. I have read that it can help with nightmares, but not so much is said about it helping overcome fears in reality.

Keep in mind, I have never been Lucid.

      What I picture:

In your Lucid Dream, coming up with an exact scenario, or something that would simulate that scenario; and practicing, in your dream until in reality, it is no longer a fear of yours.

      Is this possible?

      Thanks,

      -Wesley

Nightmares are scary because we think they are real. Being afraid of something is enough, whether it's true or not ^^

Anyway, lucid dreams can indeed help by recreating the situation, but you will never eliminate the fear at 100%, because deep down, you know the dream is not the same as the waking life. It may help a lot though, depending on the person.
Lucid dreaming certainly has a lot of space in the health scenario, but it will never completely solve the majority of problems. It's the same as a soldier that practices using simulations but knows that the "true" thing is much harder to live with.

Definitely possible, i had a few weird fears deep in subconscious before i got into lucid dreaming, and i quickly figured them out and got rid of those fears when i got into it during some of my first lucid dreams.

Is it true that you can actually talk to your subconscious in the dream to maybe find out why you have the fears?

Yeah, haven't tried personally though, but you can try summoning or finding DC that represents subconscious and ask him/her questions.

Thank you for answering my questions hah. Lucid Dreaming seems so cool. Which technique do you personally think is the easiest to LD with?
Or, does it vary with each person?

Best technique indeed varies from person to person, though generally most of people having their first successes with DILD, i would highly suggest checking out tutorials: Tutorials , and select the one that you find to be most comfortable. But whichever technique you choose, be sure to start the dream journal and start writing/typing your dreams, it helps dream recall and generally increases chance to get lucid, also pick an reality check and start doing it through the day and each time you wake up, though not automatically, but put emotions into them, like "Wow, am i dreaming?" and expect them to actually work. I personally suggest the "looking at hands" one, which seems to be very reliable and can be done pretty much everywhere without anyone noticing much.
Also check out dreamviews academy and it's intro class: Intro Class , which is a good place to start out for people who are new to lucid dreaming.

Depends what you're afraid of. Like if you fear of heights or drowning there's a real danger in them, but if you're scared of harmless snakes then it's easy to practise it while lucid. So if you are afraid of drowning you can't really practise it because you know you can't drown in the dream but in reality you might as well actually do. Like Zoth00 said.

Well, I have learned that when something scares me in dreams, to just think "You are a friend." I decided to bring that in real life and whenever a situation scares me, I think "The people here are my friends" (even though I don't know them) and it really helped me with "social fear" I guess I can call it that. I did the same with my fear of spiders. So I suggest that you use whatever technique you use to turn scary dreams into safe dreams in waking life.

Yeah, lots of people have done this it is a very good aspect of LDing. I personally don't have any fears that I need to work over, they are all "good" fears to keep me sane and safe. fear for my pregnant wife, so I am cautious around her. Maybe I should induce a few fears now that I think of it. Heights, drowning, enclosed places, all give me a thrill mwahaha!

I used to be much more afraid of large dogs as a teen than I am now, and I think part of what changed was due to a dream I had when I was about 18 or 20, where I was being chased by large dogs but then ran up a wall, and that made me realize that this was just a dream, and I stared the dogs down, and they turned into paper dogs. Now I am still not fond of large dogs and mostly avoid them, but it's no longer a big deal, no longer a fear that haunts me, I guess. They are just not my thing. And I think that difference between deep fear before versus not my thing avoidance is at least in part due to that dream, which made me feel empowered. That and the fact that I am generally more mature than I was as a teen - that might have something to do with it, too.
