My lucid dreams are very vague

I just said to myself "this is a dream!" while i was napping, and my heart beat started to race. I had lucid dreams that lasted only a couple of seconds because i was too excited, so this time i told to myself "relax". Instead of flying or trying to shoot fireballs out of my hands, i said to myself to do something simple, like you know - eating. I knew i had lucid powers, so when some food or silverware fell to the floor i used my hands like magneto to pull them back to me.

I remeber eating and feeling the flavor and taste of the food that i ate, while still being aware im in a dream. I couldnt conjure up different foods by mere thought (only had pasta) and i wanted to look somewhere else. The minute i moved my eyes i woke up. Why?

And furthermore - many times ive read about people remebering vivd and colorful dreams about running in a field of wheat, or flying over a colorful city where everything changes form and color. My lucid dreams are not like that. Once i attain lucidity, i start seeing things in a "tunnel vision style", like when you look through binoculars and theres blackness at the sides - thats how my lucid dreams look like. Everything is gray, vague and tunnel visionary - completely the opposite of what i read about.

Edit: One more question - how do you look around you in a dream, if moving your eyes causes you to wake up?
