SO FRUSTRATED – Just need to vent

Hey guys, this is my first post. so sorry if I ramble or go on tangents. I guess I need to release a big buildup of tension in my mind about the topic of LDing... It has become so frustrating to me that it feels like nearly EVERY single person in my life (even close friends and family) have NO idea... Or at least, won't even listen with an open mind when I try to explain to them the experience and wonders of lucid dreaming. 99% of them are convinced that I'm either over-exaggerating, that lucid dreaming is fake, or that I'm just crazy. At least that is the way they look at me when I decide to try sharing and introducing them to what I now firmly believe is BY FAR the most ecstatic and wonderful experience open to man. Even in the midst of my frustration, I took advantage of the freedom I have in my public speaking class to give an informative speech about Lucid Dreaming, and I tried to explain it as thoroughly as possible... I was astonished at the amount of dull, careless looks I faced while giving this speech – People seemed to be confused by my enthusiasm and excitement for this topic. And I knew, I sensed it, that none of them even cared to simply Google “Lucid Dreaming.'' But EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NEEDS TO EXPERIENCE A LUCID DREAM. Maybe then they would have enough sense in wanting to pursue this art. I guess one way to look at it is that it is their own loss for not listening and missing this endless opportunity for a lifetime, but I just wish it wasn't that way. I feel embarrassed and humiliated by this sense of isolation and disconnection from others about this ultimate passion that everyone deserves to have, but that's part of the reason why I joined dreamviews. I've been visiting this site quite a bit for about a year, trying to finally experience a lucid dream for myself, and just truly prove to myself that it is in fact real.. I experienced a few semi lucid dreams which were fantastic in themselves, and finally my first WILD about a month ago... When I finally achieved that and successfully WILD'ed... And experienced the sensation of my mind literally sliding out of my body, and then opening my eyes in a dream state... Feeling a fully conscious physical body and mind, free to truly explore the unlimited frontiers of my imagination, which was restrained and limited in waking life until then.... I knew that Lucid dreaming was it for me. The beginning of a lifelong privilege to enjoy the purest form of adventure, open for any of us humans to learn. People need to learn, understand, appreciate, and fully take advantage of this incredibly powerful gift (albeit locked to us at first) we have been given in this bundle of life. I don't know why I took so long to join but I am so glad I finally joined dreamviews, where there is a true community of wonderful, creative, and open-minded people who have taken action to unlock this gift as well. Please share any thoughts, I just want to feel real connections and exchanges with other people who can appreciate lucid dreaming as I do.

I understand what you are saying and I feel the same. But some people are just not ready for this. All you can do is try to explain it. But you can't make them understand, and get enthusiastic about something they don't understand.

You have found Dreamviews, a safe haven for LDers. Welcome home!

Thank you so much gab! Perhaps you're right. We should be grateful that we were one of the rather uncommon people to recognize a what gift lucid dreaming really is.

You see, I tried to tell my mom. I would love her to experience this. It would change her whole view of the world, as it had changed mine. But she wants me to stop, because she is scared for me. I told one of my friends, and she told me I perhaps lost my marbles. Another friend believed me, but that was it, she didn't show any interest in learning more or trying for herself. And another friend was fighting back a huge laugh. Only thing that stopped her from telling what she really think is that her kids were there.

So I realized, this has to come from within. Nobody can tell you what it is or recruit you. You must have this curiosity in yourself and you must want this. By yourself. Nobody can tell you or motivate you.

I look at this as a unique brotherhood. It's not for everybody. One day, perhaps, it will be.

I'm sure almost everyone here can relate to you. I have no idea why people don't care about this. It blows my mind. Although I can understand from some perspective as I use to be able to have 2 lucids per week after a couple months of practice but it does take quite a lot of effort and some nights you just want to fall asleep without caring about any routines or anything before sleep. This is particularly true when you start working full time as it's just so hard to work lots of hours yet somehow find the will to practice good habits to induce lucid dreams throughout the day.

Practicing lucid dreaming isn't just some small thing you do before bed, it's a lifestyle change to become more aware of the world around you and to question your reality often and I think that can be very tiring.

Anyway I think I went off on a bit of a tangent but short story, I agree and it's fucking insane that no one seems to care about it.

I pretty much had the same reaction from my mum and peers but my best friend back a few years ago (when I was actively lucid dreaming) found it really interesting and he actually became better at it than me. We would go to school and talk about the adventures we had at night, the secret bases we had made, the feeling of flying, everything. It was so damn magical to just open up to someone and share those experiences with each other. Fuck man, now I'm getting all nostalgic thinking about it. We talked about EVERYTHING to do with lucid dreams like:
      • What it feels like to fly
      • Where our secret bases were
      • crazy shit we did with / to DCs
      • We helped each other over come problems such as how to teleport
      • We tried shared dreaming

      The good old days :')

I agree, it's crazy so many people don't know about lucid dreaming, probably because it sounds like one of those too good to be true things.

My family understands what lucid dreaming is and doesn't think I'm crazy for doing it but so far none of them have started learning to lucid dream. Although one of my sisters will soon probably.

      I can't agree enough.
The think that frustrates me the most, is the fact that all the skepticism stems from the person's inability to accept the fact that it's a legitimate thing. Lucid Dreaming isn't a supernatural phenomenon that happens once every thousand years. It's quite simply being aware in your dreams. Skepticism is a natural element of the human mind set, and quite an essential one. However, if people just LISTENED with an open mind, this world would be so much better. Everyone is just terrified of being the stupid person who believed in the stupid concept of (Insert valid activity.)

      Know exactly how you feel..

When I finally got lucid, I told my Mum that I did it, I was like, Mum I finally had one of those dreams where I know it's a dream, (we have had minor talk about it before, she always shrugged it off) and she just stared at me, sighed and I was like, you think that I'm crazy, don't you? She just nodded and it got awkward.. So, never talking to anyone other then people I know are lucid dreamers themselves about the topic again, it's kinda sad that its like this to be honest.

I actually never met any real opposition to the fact that lucid dreaming is possible. Though I don't find it sad or frustrating that some people don't believe it is possible, or when they believe that they don't try to learn/pursue it.
In Germany we have a proverb; Jedem das Seine (To each his own. Means for everyone to be left in peace and to be allowed to keep, do, believe what is dear to them, or also to choose to not believe in something.) So I don't try to convince people into trying it out, if they don't want, they don't want, it's not sad in my opinion. You can tell them, if they don't trust you, you can show them facts, if they don't believe them, you can just say to each his own and continue walking.

Long story short, I just don't tell anyone about lucid dreaming.
To the exception of my girlfriend. One person on Earth :C

From a noob lucid dreamers perspective, this stuff is really hard to get down. A lot of people dont understand our brains enough to know its capabilities. I mean, I know I had a lucid dream. But it was so vivid and memorable, i'm just trippin' that it actually happened. It feels like I watched a scene from a video game. A very graphic video game... I'm trying to believe it happened, but until I have my next lucid dream, I'm still a skeptic. Lol, it was TOO SURREAL!

I think you also need to consider that some people are afraid of lucid dreaming. It's almost like opening pandora's box, or dabbling in things we are not supposed to!

The other thng is that most people I talk to don't seem to remember their dreams very much - just hazy recollection and very occasional vivid dreams, so the idea of something that is as real as waking life just seems impossible.

I don't tend to tell people, unless if, when I mention dreams in general, they show a genuine interest.

I always think "pearls before swine"!
