Not To Good To Be True.

      Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post this up as I've been thinking about it all day as I had one of the best Lucid Dreams I've ever had last night!

I'm the sort of person that has come to the conclusion through my life so far that if it sounds to good to be true, it nearly always is!
I've found that to be the case with almost everything, then I found Lucid Dreaming!
LDing doesn't only sound to good to be true, it sounds so good, most people that hear about it don't even believe it exists!

I'd had a few Lucid's before I knew what they were when I was a kid and always remembered them, so when I first heard about LDing a couple of years ago I knew they were a real phenomenon right away.
However, being a long time since my last Lucid I had only a little idea what to expect.
I knew you could know "I'm Dreaming" but couldn't remember how much detail or control you could expect.
I remember reading on this forum the first day I joined about someone having a Lucid and picking up a stone, looking at it up close and describing the fine details they could see, like all the pits and cracks and that made me wonder if you could really get such fine details.

After a few days when I had my first Lucid I was in a desert and just knew I was Dreaming as the Dream formed around me and right away was blown away!
I remembered reading about the stone so picked up a handful of sand, held it close to my face and was totally amazed at the fine detail, seeing every single grain!
After that I was completly hooked and knew I would be doing this the rest of my life!

The truly mad thing is that most people don't even know that this experience exists!
I find that so hard to believe and even when told, people are usually totally uninterested.
Who wouldn't want to be able to do the impossible with no fear of death or injury? All in complete realism, with all senses intact and all while you'ld normally be doing nothing but sleeping!
I've even read posts on the net where people say "oh I've had those, I just wake myself up and go back to sleep!" Why would anybody do that? I know everybody's different but I can't see how anyone could have a good quality Lucid and not with a passion want to explore this internal World.

To me it just doesn't make sense that something so awesome, and I use that in the literal sense, is so neglected and unknown!
After 2 years I look forward to every nights Lucid with as much excitement and anticipation as my very first!
Actually even more so because of having more control and longer Lucid's.
I know I'll feel the same after 10 years having them also.

Anyone just starting out Lucid Dreaming, keep with it!!
It will be so much more than worth it when you start having them, even one good quality Lucid can leave an impact on your life you'll never forget!

Quite a long post that has probably already been said in some way or another somewhere along the line, but I just wanted to write down what I was thinking today.

      Thanks for reading.

If you only have the skills to do so you can experience anything you can imagine as real.

Glad to see you are so enthusiastic!
I too am astounded that LDing is such a little known about art form.
I've only managed a few very short LDs, the latest last night was just a bit longer, so I am more hopeful of more.

      Thanks for the encouragement!

Can you share more about last night's lucid? I think it would be motivating for the beginners and myself. My last one was longer than the few before and so far they are more frequent than when I first got back to it a few months back (I also had LDs when I was young, nightmare fighting then flying/fun).

People don't grasp the vivid and tactile realism of lucid dreams. Most people think of dreams as a parade of shadowy and vaguely annoying procession of images, if they remember them at all.

I think most people just find it silly. Its a kids thing right? Waking up in the middle of the night because of a nightmare and monsters. Or when they ramble on about weird dreams while you're eating breakfast.

Its just a common phenomenon you had when you where a kid and you learn to dismiss such toughts (like nightmares). Public opinion is just negative towards dreaming because they don't really know what it actually can offer.

Most people don't remember dreams at all or automatically forget the dreams when waking up as its routine. So why suddenly think its special?

It can be more than that. For some people it's sort of taboo; like something you shouldn't talk about.
For instance, try saying to someone ,"I had a dream about you last night", and watch them start moving away from you!
I frequently have dreams where family, colleagues or friends appear, but except for close family I don't mention it at all.

I do wonder though if LDing is destined to remain on the fringes of society, as just an oddity?
One problem is that it is actually quite hard for most people to do at all, let alone well, and as in most things in life, that fact alone means only a small fraction will enjoy it.

I have said before that I believe that LDing will be huge at some point in the future. Perhaps as big as anything. That's not some vain hope - I see it as being inevitable, but only when induction becomes easy through devices or pills.

I agree. I think dreaming is becoming more acceptable in popular culture. And with the hope of virtual reality, it's similar to LD, only a lot more expensive and limited.

Hmm, I don't think that will happen, only because each person is different, and the process of induction is unlikely to be easy what ever.
Pills are a no-no for many people, regardless of how safe they are claimed to be. There are bound to be side-effects or problems with tolerance or dose ineffectiveness (can't remeber the medical term where you have to take more and more to work).
Devices will have their place I'm sure, but the very nature of LD'ing will make them less than 100%. I still think devices will always have the problem that they will either wake the subject up, or not induce.
I thnk they have to work with your own capability to be effective.

I think you need to dream a bit bigger when it comes to thinking about our future, Goldenspark Or maybe just look a little further ahead. There will come a future when our own consciousness is just as malleable as putty in our hands. At some point of the journey to that there will be technology that allows us to play with our sleeping minds. (As long as some warmongering idiot hasn't decided that blowing us all up with nuclear bombs should be a priority, of course.)

You're right... at the level of technology we have now. There are probably researchers now who are investigating the location of the 'lucidity centre' of the brain, and how to activate it.

Thanks for this, this is just the motivation I need to keep myself going.

I would also like to read more about your experience in LD.

      Goldenspark,

No problem man and good points.
I think it is sort of seen as Taboo by a lot of people, especially very Religious people.
I think one of the main reasons Dreaming is so dismissed in the West is because in Medieval Britain and Europe it was seen as the Devil trying to fill your heads with evil thoughts so people didn't take notice of them.
The East on the other hand didn't have this belief, so see Dreams in a very different light.

      Hi Fogelbise.

That's good mate! the more you have the more you can practice making them longer.
Do you use the Spinning technique when the Dream starts to fade?
      If not, definitely try it!
It's the most easy and effective way to keep a LDream going in my experience.
I didn't write my Lucid out because it's pretty long and most people don't bother with a long post.
I'll write it out properly later or tomorrow and send it to you in a PM though if you like?
I've got it in my DJournal but I write things down in a weird way when it's just for me to read.

      Ctharlhie.

Yeah, I think you've hit the nail on the head!
That's what I think is the main reason people aren't interested.
I suppose you can't really blame them though thinking about it, I wouldn't have believed the detail and realism you could achieve, had I not had any myself and I've always had very Vivid Dreams.

      Jaskrab.

I think the term Lucid Dreaming is another thing that puts people off.
When most people (including sometimes me in the past when hearing about a Non Lucid Dream) hear the word Dream, they immediately switch off and as you say, see it as trivial and uninteresting.

      Jackc45.

      Thanks mate!
I'll either put it in here or PM you it and Fogelbise.

      Bobblehat.

Yeah, if there was a technology come out in which everybody could Lucid any time they wanted it would be massive!

      JoannaB.

I haven't tried any VR machines yet but it will get there some day I'm sure.
I remember my uncle telling me that he tried an early version of VR at a fair in the 80s.
He said the graphics wasn't very good but it was still pretty impressive and sort of gave you the feeling if being in a different reality.
The rate Computers and Games Consoles are developing, it's only a matter of time!

If you only have the skills to do so you can experience anything you can imagine as real.

Ok this is the Lucid I had a couple of nights ago, thought I might as well put it on here instead of PM.
It's long though so if you don't like long posts, it's not for you.

Firstly I should explain the one thing I have bit of trouble with is High Altitude Flying.
I've done it loads of times and found it easy but that's normally in Lucid's that feel real as you're having them but when you wake up, you notice discrepancies with waking life.
The more realistic and Vivid my LDs have become the harder I find High Altitude Flying, it's because of the realism I have a hard time convincing my subconscious it can do it.
I mean, I can crush a house with telekinesis, maybe even a city! Teleport, change the weather, make places come to me, summon people and many other things but H A Flight I struggle with in high level Lucid's for some reason.

      Ok now the Lucid.....

I come round somewhere, I'm not sure where as I've never been here before, there is a grey sky and it's very foggy.
My goal in this Lucid is HA Flight as I usually give up after a couple of try's and just try something else but this time want to try harder.
I first use Will (Willpower) Technique.
I don't put my hands out in any way just use pure Will to move me into the sky, I get to about roof hight and struggle to get any higher so put my hand out Superman style and shoot up rapidly about 100 foot but come right back down and land on the ground.
I think to myself "I don't want this to happen to often or it will become an expectation and could be hard to overcome".

I switch to Truster Style and start to lift, I get to about Roof hight again but then struggle, so I think of the Thrusters hitting the air under them, not the ground and I start to lift higher!
I get much higher than before using this and after Flying for a little I start to see all the shapes of fields and different housing estates, After a little more time passes I start to see the curvature of the Earth!
I then get high enough to see the British Isles! It's like I'm Flying over the English Channel and looking at it from its Southern tip, it looks so real and I start laughing and get a real buzz!
I don't know why it's so easy this time to get hight but it's effortless.
I think I get to excited and start to lose the Dream so I Spin....

I come round in my room and am so sure I've woken up, normally a False Awakening feels as if you've really woken up but the time you actually do, you can normally tell "this time I've really woken" and I'm sure this is the case here.
I'm thinking whether to stay still and get another Lucid, or to write down the Lucid I just had and then try for a WILD.
After about 20 seconds I think "I'll write it out and then WILD".
I pick up my iPad and press the button for it to come on, nothing happens so I think I didn't press it hard enough so do so, again nothing happens apart from a strange beep, I think to myself "oh don't be f**ked up" and press it again.

This time though a couple of lights, like pixels appear on the screen and start moving around it, I then think "I can't believe this, I'm still Dreaming!"
It's the most realistic FA I've ever had and I can't believe it.
I fly out my window, it's still foggy and this time everything is sort of sepia, it's a bit like the film 300, light is gleaming through the fog and as I fly over this hedge and start flying over the field next to my house I see 3 dust devils.
I've never seen one in real life but they look like I've seen them on tv and they're pretty cool.
I want to land in the field to use a stabilisation technique I sometimes use so do so, I don't really need to but I have had "Hyper Real Lucid's" after using this before so thought I'd give it a try.

As I land and do the technique, I look up and there are big bolts of blue lightning streaking through the sky which looks awesome!
As I'm watching it it starts hitting the ground not to far from me and then a huge bolt hits a tree just up from me and stays hitting it like a continuous arch.
I look behind me towards my house and the sky is a kind of bright but also dull deep cherry red, it's all swirling and blending with the brownish sepia sky around it and all of a sudden bright red, luminous lightning emerges from the centre of the red part!
They streak through sky and it just looks so good!
I watch it for a little, then turn back around and start shouting "I'm loving this" and also laughing.
This whole sceen is such an amazing sight it's pretty hard to do it justice in words but it was so cool!

I then walk over to the arching blue lightning and think about touching it but then think I'll try something else.
I put my arms up into the air and say fill me with energy!
As I do big bolts of bright blue lightning hit my hands and are arching into me, it feels like my whole body starts tingling and I'm getting chills all the way down my arms and up my back, it's sort of like when you get a shiver and people say "someone walked on your grave".
It feels very strange but again very cool and I really feel like I'm buzzing! it happens for about 30 seconds or so and then stops, I start feeling more like normal as it does but can still feel sort of rushing sensations which carry on throughout the rest of the Lucid and when I wake for some time.

I'm just about to fly towards town as I didn't really have any goals I wanted to try in this Lucid apart from High Altitude Flight, after achieving that I just want to see what I fancy while I'm in.
As I fly a little way I see a kind of reenforced large wooden hut so land, walk over to it and next to the door it says knock before opening.
I think ok, knock on the door and hear a loud gut wrenching roar! And something big and powerful hits the door from inside.
I know it can't hurt me and have to see what's inside but a little part of me just hopes it isn't something truly grotesque, as even while knowing I'm Dreaming, something really savage coming at me in this kind of realism would still not be pleasant at all!

I lift the wooden plank keeping the door shut and out comes a massive Bull!
Not as bad as I expected and it charges at me with its big horns, I just think to myself "you can't hurt me" and it veers off and just bucks around for a little then stops in front of me and is calm.
I touch it and feel the very corse hair on its back and then feel its horns.
I think "I might as well ride it for a bit and see what it's like so jump on, it bucks a little which is fun but then starts walking calmly, sort of like a horse.
I start riding towards town but the Dream starts to fade so I spin...

I come round in my room and know I'm still in this time so again fly out my window.
This time it's a bright summers day, clear blue sky and feels like early morning, there's bunting hung everywhere (you know that stuff that's like string with lots of different coloured triangles hanging from it that you get at fates) and that gives the Lucid a real celebration type feel.
I again fly over the field but this time towards the coast, I live a few miles away from the beach so want to go under the sea and hopefully see some sea life as this is something I've thought about trying for a little while but haven't gotten round to.

As I'm flying I can tell it's going to take some time at the speed I'm going and I also know I've been Lucid for quite a long time already and want to get there before I wake up, so I say out loud "fly the speed of sound".
As I do I hear a massive sonic boom and my speed increases drastically!
The ground under me is flying by and I'm covering ground rapidly, after a few seconds it sort of skips some of the trip and I'm right by the coast.
I can see a beached shipwreck on the sand and look at it as I fly over, then I dive at great speed into the sea.

I go very deep but the sea is very clear, not like in waking life, it's like I'm in the tropics or something and it's full of sea life!
I can see big jellyfish, massive sea turtles and loads of schools of multi coloured fish swimming about.
I swim around for a while taking in all the sites and then surface, as I do I bob back under the water and the water goes up my nose!
In waking life if I jump in the water I have to pinch my nose as otherwise the water goes up it and feels like my nose is burning and it makes me choke.
The exact feeling happens in the Lucid and I can't believe it!
My nose is burning a little and I'm choking, it feels just as its really happened.

I lose the Lucid because of it and this time I don't have time to Spin and wake up.

All in all a great Lucid, I got a few things done I've thought about trying For a while but haven't gotten round to and the visuals and sensation of the lightning was amazing!
Also seeing the curvature of Earth in a high quality Lucid was brilliant and something I've wanted to see from the beginning, I've flown into orbit before when I first started LDing but it wasn't the experience I was hopping for, this more than made up for it.

Told you it would be a pretty long post lol.

      Thanks for reading.

Thank you for taking the time to type that out! It was definitely worth reading the whole thing! I feel like I got a *taste* of your level of lucidity in my last one and that just inspired me to keep working towards lucids whenever I put my mind to it. Thanks again for responding to the request!

On spinning.. no have not tried that yet. I have read about it but how do yo do it? Like standing, arms out spinning fast or slow like you might IRL?

I'll let him answer this, but I would like to add that if you don't have time to spin or it doesn't work, then try sitting up as soon as you begin to feel the transition to your physical body; that is, just before the blackness ends. Usually you can "leave your body" (in a dream). This is so easy and becomes such a habit that I hardly ever spin anymore. If you don't like always being in your room you can just expect to sit up somewhere else. Spinning requires quicker timing and a more complex motion, while sitting up does not. I recommend getting in the habit of doing the spin and then sitting up each time. If they both fail, then do a reality check. Also, if you find that you wake up too much, then just concentrate for a few seconds before getting up.

The beauty of this is that they each seem to have their own timing; one after the other. At least, I have never been able to spin at the very last second when there is very little dream body feeling left, but I can force a partial separation, which gets your foot back into the door.

No problem mate, glad you enjoyed the read.

With Spinning, ideally you want to start as soon as the Dream starts to fade, with me now though they fade very quickly for some reason, only about 2 seconds and visuals are completely gone and I usually only manage to react by the time they have completely gone, often thinking I'm to late.
What I do is put my arms out to the sides, Spin and keep Spinning!
I can't see anything so I concentrate on the feeling of the blood being forced into my fingers from the centrifugal force, I think this is what Lebeurge also does.
I also Spin pretty fast, about as fast as you can in waking life to get the blood pumping to my fingers.

I'll keep Spinning and after a few Spins it feels like I'm lying down with my eyes closed, like I've woken up! Sometimes in my bed, sometimes you can tell you're somewhere else even with your eyes still closed.
It could be different for you though how you come round.
Usually you can just tell you're still Dreaming, open your eyes, get up and go about your Lucid.
Sometimes though you might not be sure if you've woken up or not, when this happens I usually give it about 10 seconds lying completely still, this way if you have woken you will probably fall into another Lucid very quickly anyway.
If nothing happens in this time then Reality Check and you're probably Lucid.

Lastly when you first start using this technique, tell yourself "I'm Lucid" or "I'm Dreaming" over and over as you Spin as otherwise you might come round somewhere and be in a Non Lucid! Even if you're in the strangest of places you still might not click on you're still Dreaming.

      Hi Ctharlhie.

Yeah I know, for some reason my subconscious just has a bit of a hard time excepting that fact which is a bit of a bugger.
I also know and tell myself whilst trying to Fly high that there's no gravity apart from what I'm making, but again to no avail.
It's only a matter of finding something that works that will "free my mind", I just have to find it!

      jackc45.

Thanks mate, glad you liked it!
Just keep trying man and you'll be Lucid in no time.

      Aneas.

It's funny, I have a pretty big fear of heights in waking life, that's why I love going high or being up high in Lucid's!
In waking life if I'm on a really high building where I could jump off easily, for some reason I visualise myself leaping off the building and then past the point of no return think, why did I just do that and fall lol.
I know I wouldn't really do it but it makes me think I might for some strange reason.
In Lucid's however one of my favourite things to do is throw myself off of Skyscrapers and fall, just pulling up before I hit the ground!
The sensation of falling is awesome!!

I've also been to other Worlds in LDs, just have to Teleport there but would like to be able to Fly off Planet, rather than Teleport.

      Meskhetyw.

I've never heard of that technique but sounds good!
Next time the last Spin of a Lucid fails, I'll give it a try, thanks!

Hey Mr0Blonde, re. Your fear of HA flying, have you tried adding a machine to help you rationalise your flying? I mean a flying machine of course! I've done some hang gliding and have a natural fear of falling from height, but a wierd thing happens when I am clipped into a hang glider - the fear of heights almost disappears! If you have the chance, try and get a (real) air experience flight in a glider (sailplane). That's probably the best way to experience what I mean. You may find in your LDs that with something supporting you your fear diminishes.

As an aside, when I was flying, I never dreamed about it, but now that I have stopped, I find I dream about it quite a lot - that is, flying like superman but with my arms outstretched.
