Dream Characters refused to answer questions?

The first time I became lucid in my dream is the most wonderful experience I have ever had. In that lucid dream, I told my my uncle to compose a music for me but he stared at me and tried to bully me. After that I saw a friend and asked him about my true self, he just stared at me like Im a weirdo or something. Why did they refuse to answer my questions and to do what I wanted?

I'm no expert here, heck, I've not even been lucid even once, but what I know, if you don't treat DCs like normal people, things can get hectic.

For example, if you want to control people, then that'll probably require some high dream control. You'll have to believe that they'll do your bidding with 100% expectation, and then perhaps it'll happen. You're better trying to perform small things first, and to then move to mind control.

About your true-self, you can't just ask that right out of the blue. Only your subconsciousness knows your true self, and only a manifestation of your subconsciousness into a DC will probably believe that this is a dream, and answer your question. You can summon it before you as a DC, but it may take some effort and time.

But hey, I'm just a newbie, so take it with a pinch of salt.

I have never had a LD but I do get how you should go about controlling things.
Start with something simple, try to fly maybe, you need to practice, its like learning how to swim, you have to get good at it first with practice.
Also look for some techniques for more complicated things such as transformation or DC control.

While it may be frustrating, asking a random DC to show you your true self the first time you are lucid is like walking into a Buddhist temple and demanding that a monk make your reach Nirvana. Like the others have said, you really have to start small. I have lucid dreamed a handful of times, and while I have been able to fly without thought, I can't do other complex actions like conjuring or controlling DCs yet.

Discovering yourself is an end goal of lucid dreaming; don't rush to the finish. Like many things in life, lucid dreaming is about the journey, not the destination.

Like it has already been said, it has to do with dream control and expectation/belief. Also, in the dream as in waking life there's a % of the action that you do actually control and the rest is just the way it turns out, other factors. In the dream world your % of potential control is much higher of course, yet from one to another the dream always has its element however subtle or strong it may be.

I noticed that if I don't know the answer to the question subconsciously, then my DC would not answer it. For example, one time in my dream I met a very close friend who recently passed and I asked him "I have always been interested in knowing, but what happens when you die?". Now, I wasn't really lucid in the dream, but I had vividness that cannot describe. My friend just looks at me and smiles but doesn't say anything. When I repeat the question in a little forceful way, I wake up. My mind could have made up any reason, but it didn't for some reason. At other times, I have seen false memories coming in, but not in this case though.
