Need someone to clear things up on awareness/ADA

I always thought of ADA as focusing on all of the senses at once, even now I could never really do that. However now I am thinking that it isn't focusing on all the senses at once, instead it is acknowledging that whatever sensory input that is happening at the moment is happening without thinking too much about that particular sensation. Am I wrong? Would like your thoughts on this.

For me, awareness all day simply just means I constantly realize I'm not dreaming. I stay conscious and don't let my mind wander or think about random stuff. It kind of becomes natural after a while and works like a charm. On days when I do it, I'm literally guaranteed several lucids both DILDs and WILDs and catch myself in false awakenings without even trying.

Also I'm not sure if this is the same approach other people use, I always hear about people just focusing on all their senses all the time but that just aggravates me and makes day to day living retarded and doesn't work.

How often do you engage in this ADA, smouse? I've been trying this but I can only typically remember to do it a few times a day, so I've not been seeing much benefit from it yet.

For ADA, you have to start off doing it in sessions throughout the day when you remember to do it and it will slowly incorporate itself into your lifestyle. It will become habit, and something that will always be at the back of your mind. It takes a lot of work to get started, but once you start living lucidly, you are guaranteed to start dreaming lucidly, simply because it's in your lifestyle. It's a part of you.

^ Exactly the more you do it, the more natural it will become until you just automatically do it and have lots of lucids. I don't even keep count of my lucids anymore because I just have random spontaneous ones all the time. Just do it as often as you can and you will find you're able to last longer and longer without forgetting.

So if you are practicing ADA you don't want your mind to wander at all or think about random stuff?

Pretty much. I made this post because I got confused on ADA or rather my confidence in the tech went down and I wanted to make sure I was 'doing it right'. I just made something that is rather simple harder for myself. Anyway ADA imo is about being mindful of whatever you are doing in the present moment. Being mindful of everything at once all the time in my opinion sensory overload and I admit thats what I had been trying to do in the past and resulted in me getting tired, though my dreams did get more vivid. Lately I have been lazy with the technique so I decided to get back into again. After reading some threads about ADA, I believe now that ADA is about being aware of what you are doing in the present moment, which is very similar to the concept of mindfulness. I think doing this helps with self awareness and that is what enables lucids and I think it also prevents environmental changes that occur at random. I had dreams where I am playing a video game then suddenly I am not playing it but inside the world of the game. Same with movies. With self awareness I don't think this would happen.

So in summary. If being aware of absolutely everything is too much for you, then simply just be aware of what you are doing. Oh and critical questioning seems to work wonders. Like asking yourself "Where am I", "How did I get here", "WTF am I doing" last one is a joke but you get the picture.
