      Reality Check Habits

For all of us trying to improve our lucid dreaming skills, it almost always involves becoming for self-aware and performing reality checks often.

Simple in concept, but sometimes hard in execution. What do you guys do to keep the intention of reality checking fresh in your mind throughout the day? With work and other things throughout life, it's easy to forget and go a while before you perform your set of RC's.

For example, I've heard some people say to develop the habit of doing an RC everytime you go through a doorway. How do you guys go about developing this habit? When trying this out, I'll often remember long after I've gone through several doorways and then be disappointed I've let myself slip so many times haha.

I wonder if like wearing a bracelet or unique piece of clothing that you normally don't wear could help you link that to the need to do an RC. Thoughts?

No replies yet ? You ask great questions. One thing that could work is to get the habit of RCing every hour, and trying to remember what one was doing the hour before. One is engaging prospective and retrospective memory, and it may help to make some sense of our waking time which hopefully would extend to dreams.
Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

I don't use RC's as a means of becoming lucid but instead use them as a second layer of confirmation that I am dreaming after attaining lucidity, so I may not be the most knowledgeable on the subject. However, I think that just by realizing you are forgetting to do your reality checks throughout the day is a big step in the right direction. I think as you continue to practice your rc's and keep them on your mind, you'll see some major progress. Don't be discouraged that you aren't doing them on time, be joyous in the fact that your brain is remembering to do them at all. Especially if it's daily or hourly.
P.S. As you become better in your reality checking, make sure you don't start doing them like clockwork, otherwise they'll start to lose their effectiveness.
Hopefully that makes some kind of sense.

My Lucid Dreaming Motto - "I have walked upon the the surface of a burning star. Observed events so infinitesimal and instantaneous that they can barely be described as having occurred at all. You... you're just a dream character. And this world's most powerful dream character poses no more threat to me than it's smartest cupcake." - Dr. Manhattan (kinda)

I like the idea of thinking about the last hour. I usually just think about the last 5 minutes, but an hour makes much more sense. Also would give the reality check a bit more sense of importance.

      Also @TranquilityTrip
Ya you're right, it's certainly one of those things that becomes easier to incorporate throughout your day the more you do it. Just gotta keep at it!

      ADA. Nuff' said.

Actually, not nuff' said. All Day Awareness is one of my favorite ways of becoming lucid, and more aware in daily life.

Go search it, I find that is "motivation" in it's self.

There is a subreddit called luciddreaming if you use reddit. One of the members there created screen savers for your phone that say "Are You Dreaming?" on different landscapes that you can download for free. It's helps me remember all the time since I look at my phone 6,179 times a day
