To put it simply, no Everyone is different! Just as some people prefer WILD to DILD, or flying to teleporting, some people prefer some reality checks to others.
I think that when it comes down to it, a reality check is really just a 'tool' for double checking that you're dreaming. In most cases, before you do a reality check you have that spark of awareness - something clicks and you recognise that the world around you is not as it appears, and then you do the reality check. In theory, any form of dream control you can think of can serve as a reality check!
The ones that people have made popular to use are because they are something you can make a habit during every day life, and in general it's easy to make them work without being a master of dream control The nose-pinch RC for example is pretty universal. Everyone knows what it's like to breathe through their nose normally, and (i think) there's also a bit of a biological reasoning behind it, in that your sleeping body continues to breathe while you're dreaming. It's also easy to do in almost any situation without worrying about people seeing you trying to phase through a wall or something
Everyone has a different level of ability or and different personal beliefs, and as such I think RC's would work different for everyone Maybe you should try making your own for fun! For instance I know Hukif uses a reality check where he simply tests gravity - does everything feel normal to you? Can you feel the weight of your body? Can you turn gravity off and float into space? It's just a check to make sure that you can control what is around you!
