      Dream character friends

One of my lucid dream goals is to make some dream character friends I can hang out with in dreams and go exploring with. I think having someone else in the dream you can talk to and experience things with would make it a lot more fun and enhance the whole experience.

So does anybody here have dream character friends? If you do, how did you meet them and befriend them? Are they characters from a book, show, or game? DC versions of your friends and family? Or original dream characters that don't resemble somebody from waking life?

I suppose the closest thing would be my dream guide, a lovely lady with no resemblance (that I can think of) to any one in real life.
Also, its more like friends with benefits. As for meeting her, I set my intention prior to going to sleep and happened to bump into her during my next lucid.

Nice, I'll have to try setting my intention.

I also think DC friends could be used as a lucid trigger if they start appearing in non-lucid dreams. You could even try asking them to tell you when you're dreaming.

      Yes... Exactly.

I did an experiment a few months ago in which I tried this exact thing.

Worked very well for the most part.

Where you need to be careful is when the friendships become... closer....

I would love to try this, once I've attained lucidity again.

I've struggled with some aspects of lucid dreaming. (Attaining WILDS, Long stretches of Lucidity, Consistent Recall) But I have made dream character friends and would be happy to tell you our tales.

My first dream character friend I met right when I began practicing lucid dreaming. Originally, I didn't have a name for her, but she turned out to be my dream guide. Chances are you will have at-least one friend in a lucid dream and that will be your dream guide. I've heard some users say that their dream guide will only appear after a sufficient amount of time has passed and the guide feels that the dreamer is ready. Dream friends are weird in that regard, they are both you and not you. For that reason it is important to be respectful to them, for if you are not, you are actually, in a strange way, hurting yourself.
I didn't know she was my dream guide at first. I was just tracking my lucids and noticed that this same dream character kept popping up. Not only that, but she was teaching me things. I eventually got a real chance to talk with her and asked her what her name was. (As I was tired of referencing her simply as my dream guide) And funny thing; She asked me to name her.
I went with Lia. Short, easy to remember, and I don't know anyone named Lia (or Julia) in RL so this seemed to work well.
I then learned that she was under some oath/contract of some sort to carry out my every command. I don't know if everyone gets this with their dream guide or not, but the important thing is not to abuse it. (No matter how cool it is to have someone listen and do exactly what you say.) Remember your dream friends are a part of you, and abusing them is harmful to them and you.
Now if my dream recall had been better these past few months, maybe I would have remembered more of what we have talked about. I've had so many dreams where we're sitting and talking, but when I awake I completely forget what we were talking about. (Wouldn't it be ironic if I were asking her how to improve my dream recall.)
I also have to say that she is present in many of my non lucid dreams as well, often hiding under the brilliant disguise of sunglasses. (It fools you better than you think in a dream)

My second dream friend is an adult man named Marcus. I encountered him in a very long and memorable dream where I had to return to him a stolen AI program. I became lucid in the end of the dream and told him that I would wake myself up.
I looked back in my DJ and realized that I had seen him before. I kept coming across a dream character that I described as wearing the same glasses and being wealthy/successful. In one dream he was named Marcus, so I put that name forward.
I don't see him as much as Lia, (granted, he's not my dream guide) but I do see him from time to time. I am also more likely to see him in a Nonlucid dream. He frequently returns to demonstrate new technologies that he has developed to me. The AI program returned as well. I named the AI "Glitch" and the AI has the ability to infect any piece of computer technology. Glitch is basically like a Siri that can follow me anywhere. Sometimes in my lucid dreams, I have a holographic OS that I can bring up that is run by Glitch that allows me to execute dream control.
In December, the TOTM was to ask a dream character for a present and report what you get. He gave me a weapon that I could use for my defense. (Kind of pointless seeing as I've mastered waterbending, and am now working on fire, and bullets don't even hurt me.) The gun malfunctioned and failed to fire properly however. I want to see if I can get that weapon again and get it to work properly.

There is a third dream character who I decidedly named Jack. He doesn't do as much as the other two, and more seems to lurk in the background, but here is what I do know about him.
I once asked him what he was doing in my dreams. He stated he was head of my personal security. (Agian, seems kind of pointless from my perspective, I am a lucid dreamer, I can throw fireballs and fly.) But thanks for being there anyway... you never know.
He also seems to be a substitute dream guide. This only happened twice.

I don't know, if you really want to know everything, you gotta read my 200+ DJ entries.

Wow JadeGreen, that is really cool!

Yeah, I think overly commanding DC friends kind of defeats the point, at least for me. With random DCs I think just acting like they're supposed to be helping you is a good way of controlling them without turning them into a zombie or running the risk of them not cooperating.

The oath/contract reminds me of C2 from code geass

      Haha, love the sunglasses disguise!

This is why I think having DC friends can be really useful, there's no end to what they could help you with.

I'll have to read your DJ, sounds like you have all kinds of fun adventures.

Well if you find yourself in that situation then just ask them to not follow every order like a game of Simon says.

I have no idea what that is. Some anime?

I've been at this for three years, but I always feel like I'm just getting started.

Hey, I wish I could help. As JadeGreen mentioned, I also noticed my DC buddy by examining my dreams and noticing that, despite multiple appearances, there was more often than one a person who happened to act in a specific manner. I met with him after, and he's been around every once in a while ever since. (He does have a name, but it's not really anything that can be written)... He has since been my primary method of lucid dreaming (he'll show up and I'll recognize him, then it'll all fall into place). As far as I know, he isn't anything from my waking life.

I'd mostly suggest if you're looking for DCs, they might be around, just hard to notice. They might've been around for a long while and have just been difficult to notice. I mostly figured it out with dream diaries and introspection upon waking. Hell they might even be hiding from you for whatever reason. Of the people I know outside of dreamviews, you might be able to craft your own that then gains its own self or they may only show up in specific situations... Good luck, either way...

Thanks for the great advice guys Unfortunately I haven't had a lucid dream since around the 20th of February, so I haven't been able to work on this more

Yeah, it's actually written C.C. but pronounced C2. The way some people describe their dream guide reminds me of her, because she helps the main character and she's kind of mysterious and 'all knowing' acting.
