Having trouble with stabilizing before the dream falls apart

Last night I had 2 lucid dreams, but here's what happened. I started off in the dream, knew it was a dream so I did a nose plug check. Then I tried rubbing my hands and stabilizing like looking around and everything. But the dream stayed very dark and ended abruptly, even after I tried to stabilize.

Anybody know what could be the problem?

      Hi,

It might be just that the rubbing hands technique wasn't effective enough for this kind of stabilization?
I ain't sure if it's confirmed but i belive Stabilization is just dragging yourself deeper into dream world while at the same moment moving further from real world
It's just as walking on thin ice and walking on thick one.

And since lucid dreaming is personal thingy it might be just that rubbing hands technique is not effective for you as much as it was for creator of it?
I'd suggest you reading up this thread:

This tutorial is merely stabilization fundamentals turned into slightly effective technique

What I do is yell out 'Dont wake me up yet!' Or when i feel my eyes closing, i say 'keep my eyes open!' It helps in those darkness situations.

The thing is stabilization works on one principle: all you need to do is distract your mind from waking up.
This can be done in many ways, and alot of people have something personal that works for them. I used to be facing the obstacle you are facing now. I soon found out that the problem was that whenever I became Lucid, I immediately started worrying about waking up. Doing this causes you to fill your mind with thoughts of "waking up" and that in turn puts your focus on mainly that. What I did to fix that, was that I stopped worrying and as soon as I become lucid now, I relax and get on with what I want to do.
Another thing that works great is putting all of your 5 senses to use in the lucid dream. When you do this is basically does everything that stabilization requires: distraction from waking up and/or thoughts of waking up. Go around and touch objects, smell the air, feel the wind against your body, hear the sounds of nature, taste some food. Those are all just examples, but by all means put your 5 senses to use.
In the end if you find that you don't want to do any of the above stuff, or it doesn't work, just remember the main principle of stabilization, but I'm sure one of the things above will work for you man.

      Goals:
-Become Lucid in every dream every night
      -Perfect the time dilation watch
-Continue to have a dream plan for most of my lucid dreams

That was my problem though, tried but everything remained dark. This is probably just a short term thing that I'll get over quickly I'm hoping.

Good advice in this thread. I just want to second the "get your five senses involved in the dream world", that really works for me. Touching whatevery you can get your hands on, look at all the gorgeous detail, all this strenghtens your bond to the dream realm.

If the problem was darkness which caused dream to destabilize you might try to solve issue the tricky way
Example: Tell yourself that your friend gave you a flashlight and you have it in your pocket with confidence and then take it out and stop the darkness.
You may even try to tell yourself that behind you on wall there is light switch which will make everything bright as heck

      Goodluck

I have this problem too occasionally. I try all kinds of stabilizing stuff, touching everything, smelling, trying to see stuff in detail but everything is dark and I feel like I'm blind. What works for me sometimes is to just let the dream go dark and then patiently wait for it to start again rather than trying to force it.
