      Composing music in LD

      Hello dreamers!

I'm not comepletely new to LD as I had a few in my life before, but three days ago I started practising LD seriously. What I'm looking forward to do (apart from having fun of course) in LD is composing a music. In my real life I'm a musician. What happenned to me some time ago was hearing some incredible music in mind when falling asleep. It was a piece of amazing jazz for piano, drums and trumpet, if I remember correctly. Even though I'm a classical musician and don't usually listen to jazz music, it made a huge impression on me. I don't know why but I felt like it came directly from the "source". I don't exactly know how to describe this. I'm 100% sure I hadn't heard it before.

And my question is: How is it like to compose music in a LD?

I also want to meet some composers in my dreams in the future

This sounds like a really interesting goal!
Some famous musicians have written music after hearing or composing it in their dreams. For example, Yesterday by The Beatles came to Paul McCartney in a dream!

I'm musically inclined but not formally trained. I haven't personally had much success when intentionally trying to compose music in my lucid dreams, but I have heard some very interesting original music in the background of dreams, both lucid and non-lucid. I can play by ear so it's probably something I could recreate upon waking if I gave it some thought. Perhaps I will try doing that next time.

I'd love to hear any dream-inspired music you create in the future!
      Good luck!

I once had a dream where a beautiful mermaid was sitting on a rock out in the ocean singing a beautiful song.
That was more than 15 years ago, when I was 13, but I still remember the song very clearly.

I love creating music in my dreams! The problem I usually have is that I can't remember exactly what I did when I wake up, but I can usually remember some basic chord progressions and melodies.

One thing I've noticed as well is that I am amazing at every instrument I play in dreams (not so much when I'm awake ). It feels very much like how I wish playing music from my heart was in waking life, I can directly put what I'm feeling into the exact combination of sounds that need to happen. It feels very pure and as though it isn't coming from me but through me and I love that feeling. Like being a perfect conduit for something beautiful.

That's some of my experience with composing in dreams.

Lol, so modest! You are extraordinarily talented on every instrument I've heard you play!
I wonder if doing some music memory training in waking life would help you to carry more out of dreams.
I'd love to hear what music you come up with!

I wish I had amazing dream skills like that... I have struggled to even play real songs that I know in waking life.
Although now that I think about it, I only seem to suck on dream-piano. I have played some awesome songs on dream-guitar, despite never having learnt guitar in waking life.

I'd be interested to know if dutchraptor has composed music in dreams before... He has both musical knowledge and dream control up his sleeve. I'll point this thread out to him.

Wow, that's sounds amazing My goal is to compose a music in style of Scriabin. I'm fascinated by his music - it goes far beneath human being, dream and existence. But I guess not many on the forum know him (if any). And one of my purposes is to summon him.

Well, I'm not a famous musician (yet ) but I use to take back from time to time, some riff's that I like. Most of the times in the path of Heavy Metal Anyway, I use to record the basic structure, and then work with that to get a whole track. Although not as I'd like it to be, specially because of lack of other musicians, but at least it makes lot of fun to hear again pieces of music close to what I heard in some of my lucids. I use to hum the basic melodies to re-build the whole riff first, but I must work on it right after waking up, at least to get the main bases which are (still) waiting to be properly worked and recorded.

I also get this music that plays in my head, usually when I take naps. It only happens when I go directly into a sleep-like state, so I might also get it sometime during WBTB. It sounds so amazing, like the perfect music, but the problem is as soon as I focus on it there is nothing but silence. So I can never know what the singers are saying. It is almost always jazz or classic/alternative rock, one of the three.

I really like Scriabin's style! That'd be super neat if you'd share your music with us after you create it.

I played Scriabin's prelude, Op. 51, No. 2 for ~Dreamer~ the other day but she said it sounded like I was bashing my head against the piano keys

LOL, I wasn't quite that harsh, was I!? I may have said it sounded like you were bashing random keys sometimes... haha.
I'd still listen to your crunchy dream opus though!

I wonder what you would say after listening to some of his late sonatas... for example no. 6 or 7. I'm preparing no. 5 right now. Anyway it might take me some time until I start having LDs regularly and develop control over them.
So far i've been trying SSILD but no luck!
I don't even go out of bed but still struggle to fall asleep after doing all the cycles. I might try waking up after 3h or 6h next time and I have enough motivation to keep going. I guess DILD might be better in my case but we shall see it.

      Have a nice day!

I've had tunes pop into my head when I've been meditating before. On a few occasions I've ended the meditation to get the ideas down.

Try switching on a radio in a dream - that's how I've heard new music in a dream effortlessly. It was very good music - not that strong melodically, but it featured some very interesting sounds played by instruments and I think it was the sound of the instruments in combination that made the music memorable.

Something that seems to help is listening to lots of new music - rather than tunes I know well. I speculate that the brain processes new music differently to music we already know and this helps with composing during meditation or in dreams.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
