Try 4 hours, not 5. SSILD technique helps me fall quickly back to sleep.

I seem to struggle to sleep when doing mild, but just make sure your really tired. Do mild for a bit then just do a mantra.

MILD and mantra are pretty much the same thing...?

No, that is a DV misconception. If you read LaBerge's description of MILD, you'll realize it's not the same. MILD is substantially more complicated than just repeating a mantra.

To the OP: if MILD is waking you up, then you are probably doing more right than wrong. What I have found is that if I drop the exercises and just lie without really thinking about anything (paying attention to breathing or doing SSILD) I normally fall asleep faster than if I let my mind wander or if I continue MILDing.

Might I suggest a supplement? Melatonin works magic for me, but take it at the beginning of the night

On the contrary, mild isn't about matra at all. For me, mantra makes mild more ineffective. My advice is not to use mantra with your mild.

Hate these two words MANTRA and SLEEP PARALYSIS. Are responsible for much misunderstanding.

It usually takes me an hour or more to fall asleep, which can make wb2b a problem, especially when I can't get back to sleep again. After trial and error I now set my alarm at 5am for mornings when I don't need to be up early, fall asleep around 6 and hopefully LD, and then get up about 8.30 without feeling dead for the rest of the day!
