Embarrassing things you did in real life thinking you are lucid

So have any of you had this experience that you think youre lucid so you do crazy stuff but you are actually in waking life? Would be nice to hear some stories about it. Also, I remember there was a thread about this but I cant seem to find it.

I'm not stupid enough to actually think I was dreaming while awake... but if you actually are just do an RC

I recall reading a thread where people end up doing an rc because they see something really strange happen but i don't think there are much people who will think they are dreaming when their awake and act out upon it. However, maybe sleep walkers experience something like that. Idk. This might sound weird but every time I have a False awakening I bite my finger to see if it is rubbery which tells me it is a dream or i pinch my finger. However, when I wake up for real I just know i'm awake and don't have to bite my finger. I can already tell. Which is really weird for a reality check but i like having my own thing. I've been doing it for years now. I do remember a time though where i woke up in the dream and it felt like i was really awake. Everything seemed in place except for a t.v. or electronic thing that wasn't suppose to be there which is kind of funny. There was also this atmosphere that felt just like waking life. But it wasn't. ^^ if you have a good memory, are observant, careful and do your own rc you won't end up acting out like your in a lucid dream. But it would be interesting to find out if anyone has ever thought they were in a dream when their not.

I'm pretty sure you can't mistake waking life for a dream unless there is a mental disorder involved, right?

My guess is that this experience is extremely rare. Petiole tend to avoid embarrassment at all costs. Even in ridiculous dreams we still try to go with the flow.

I think that crazy behavior is unique to lucids, because there is both a free environment and the realization that one is free. In waking life the threat of embarrassment or trying to fly off a building and plummeting to one's death is great enough that a reality check is always done first.

And few people see 17 fingers on one hand in waking life.

If you have a very sad life with no good things happening you can't confuse it with a dream ( maybe you can confuse it with a nightmare ). I once woke up after in a dream an old friend told me he will call me. I woke up and instantly he did call me. It was an old friend from highschool. After talking to him and closing the call I did a RC, because the situation was very spooky-like. I had similar other moments but I only did RCs. No jumping out the window, killing people or other crazy things.

So yea, there are many ways you can get confused with real life being a dream.

I agree with most posts...however if something particularly weird happens I will do an RC and think there is a possibility I am dreaming. I am 80% sure I am awake but try to leave 20% doubt, since I know in dreams I also think I am awake too. Early this morning I had an LD. I couldn't find something that should have been right where I put it a few moments earlier. After fuming a bit I thought "this is not possible. Maybe i am in a dream." I did an RC and then had some fun when I knew it was a dream. Well, I almost didn't, as I first tried to fly and fell on my butt. My wife gave me a funny look like "what were you THINKING?" and for a sec I had some doubt. But then I said "I've got this" and floated in the air and told her "see, I AM dreaming!" and took off.

Well, interestingly, last night earlier in RL I lost my wallet when I knew it should be where I had just put it! I also panic 'ed and raced around looking for it. I did an RC with my 20% doubt, but was indeed awake. Fortunately my son-in-law found the wallet. But the point is, leave some room for doubt even though you KNOW you are awake...otherwise you could miss an opportunity to be lucid.

Can't say I've ever done anything embarrassing thinking I was dreaming. There have been a few times when something really bizarre happens and I am wondering whether or not I'm dreaming for most of the day, but unless I get absolute confirmation via reality check its a no go. Better safe than failing to fly in real life and ending up on youtube.

Wouldn't people who practice lucid dreaming be able to tell the difference between reality and a dream better than anyone else?

Yes, it is true that the more you lucid dream the more you get a "sense" that maybe you are dreaming...the feel, the situations, etc. Sometimes I don't bother with an RC because I just "know" I am dreaming....but not always. Having a good RC in your toolkit is indispensible.

It's odd. When awake, it feels obvious I'm awake and not dreaming. But when dreaming, it's not obvious at all. This is why RC's are vital.
      Current projects:
      -Acquire the Aurora
      -Test galatamine, huperzine and choline
-Find smartwatch app for RC reminders at certain intervals
-Ressurect my dream log here, and become more active

That's very troubling if you truly believe that you're in a dream while awake and feel free to do something dangerous thinking that your actions are inconsequential. I'm not talking about reality checks, I'm taking about doing something like raping and killing people thinking that you're not actually causing damage only to discover afterward that you did.

Yea, if you go to court and say you thought you were dreaming you will probably be declared as insane.

There was a man once that killed his wife in his sleep. He had a record of sleep walking and was plead not guilty, although it would be hard to life with.

I do plenty of embarrasing things when I wish I was dreaming.

But no, never thought I was dreaming when actually awake. A few suspicions, yes, but never acted on it.
