      WILD vs DILD: The Experience

Hi, the purpose of this thread is to discuss the difference in experience when using WILD or DILD. I would like to pick the thoughts of you guys to see what you think about the following statement:

Lucid dreams that begin from the waking state are more intense and vivid than lucid dreams started while within a dream.

What are your opinions on this? Whether you agree or disagree, I'd like to see any examples that you have to support your opinion, and what exactly you think about this.

      Thank you very much!

      Heya,

For me its the other way around.

WILDs start very vague and fragile, and need immediate grounding and stabilising to make the dream more vivid or I risk losing it as soon as it starts. The start of a WILD for me is very much similar to the end of a DILD, where you feel yourself so close to awakening the dream its hanging on by a threat. If I stabilize it, it can become as vivid and intense as any dream, but not necessarily more so (that is, it can become extremely vivid and intense, even more so then waking, but that's the same for DILDs and even regular dreams for me as well).

DILDs, on the other hand, usually start very vivid and grounded, unless I'm having one when I'm very close to waking up. But any DILD that starts in due to sudden realisation in the dream itself usually has the advantage of already being grounded and going strong. I usually don't need to ground it, not until it starts ending.

      Just my experience,

Very interesting! Thank you very much Redrivertears, most of all I was asking for experiences. In my very limited experience compared to others, DILDs have been for me, unstable. When I wake from them, I feel like they were very hazy. This is more than likely just due to my inexperience with DILDs, as only recently (the last month) I began the MILD technique, which has been very successful as I've had two lucid dreams in the past week. Perhaps I just need to stabilize the dream more, but it was very interesting to hear your perspective! I thank you again.

      Hey there,

Generally speaking, for me, the more I immerse myself in the dream and its various sensations, the more solid and grounded the dream becomes.

For that reason, I tend to advise dreamers starting out to make their first lucid dream goal to simply explore the dream. That will immediately shift your attention to the dream and thus ground it, making it more stable and vivid. The opposite, focusing on abstract things like techniques, dream ending, or just 'wow I'm lucid', shifts your attention inwards, away from the sensations around you, and can effectively make your dream unstable and end.

      Just my 2 cents,

I think my WILDS have been more vivid than my DILDs. In all of my DILDs, I've been at a relatively low level of lucidity where I know I'm dreaming, but I'm not like "wow I'm dreaming", and I don't have any of my waking memories. In my WILDs I've known I was dreaming, and remembered to try to stabilize the dream. It never really worked though.

I have to say, my experience is very much like yours Jarjar. It is at the fact where I am dreaming, and I feel the surge of focus but it always seems like a semi-lucid dream because everything is just kind of hazy, and after the dream ends it feels like I just had a normal dream. I think after more experience with DILDs and more attempts at stabilizing will change this perspective for me.

I had maybe 7 WILDS last night, think it started with a DILD though. I would say it is probably different for each person. I did find waking up and re-entering a dream already lucid to be more intense, maybe more adrenalin and excitement I suppose than a normal DILD. That is to say because you know it's already coming so you are more pumped up whereas with DILD you have no prearrangement.

For me a WILD dream is more foggy and harder to think in than a DILD dream, not to mention its a bit harder to WILD than to DILD and they tend to be shorter so like more to DILD unless I need to urgently get back into a dream and can't wait to fall back asleep.
