Do bananas assist in making dreams more vivid?

I have heard people mention that eating Banana's has an effect on dreams and REM sleep. Is this true?

Yes, this is true. Bananas and other health foods are good for the brain which serves well for dreaming as it's a mental activity.

You could always eat one before you go to sleep to see what kind of effect it has on your dreams.

      Eat me!

I ate like 4 banana's or something before bed but I think that might have been too much as my dream recall was there and somewhat vivid but really kind of weird.

Keep in mind, will power could be effective in lucid dreaming, too. Will power requires mental energy though. But, bananas and other health foods can provide more mental energy for more will power.

Let's jump to the more scientific reasons for why these foods help with vividness of dreams.

Banana's contain quite a lot of tryptophan and vitamin b6. Tryptophan will be converted to 5-HTP, and with some help of vitamin b6, 5-HTP will be converted to serotonin. Many of you might know 5-HTP and that it helps with dream vividness. The reason for that is because it is the precursor for serotonin. Serotonin is very important in sleep and dreams.

Eggs contain a lot of choline, choline will be converted to acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter like serotonin and is import for memory, dreaming, and learning. In deep sleep acetylcholine levels are very low, however in REM-sleep (when dreams occur most often) acetylcholine levels are high again. Deficiencies of acetylcholine is associated with disrupted sleep and dreams, and with bad memory formation. The latter is also important for dream recall, dream recall isn't only the vividness of the dream itself. But also how strong your recall is; poor recall will make it look like the dream wasn't vivid.

Hope this clears it up a bit .

Because of this thread I started to have dreams about bananas... :f Also I have thoughts in them that they are good for dreams. Oh well.

I eat them pretty often. I eat rather healthy food in general, I have good recall. But no idea if it has something to do with it.

I read that apple juice is good, probably on DV. I had my last LD while testing that, also interesting dreams. But that was just one day so hard to say if this was a thing. I'll check it today as well!

I've had great experience with apple juice! I usually drink 2 large glasses or so an hour before sleeping and it from my experience it appears to increase the vividness of my dreams and the amount of dreams I recall. It might be a little bit of a placebo effect from reading good things about it here on DV, but as long as it works I don't mind
"The scariest, most terrifying thing that I fear?
      My imagination."
-"I thought you were going to say 'Fear, itself'."
"Then you have a small imagination."

"You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."

The great thing about lucid dreaming is that choosing to believe something can help it become "true", whether it physically really helps or not. Willpower and the placebo effect make a big difference.

I've always heard (dark) chocolate and bananas, so those are what I try occasionally.

      Basically, yes.

This is a legit lucid aid. Well, not eating eggs, but taking a choline source (like CDP choline or Alpha GPC) in the middle of the night along with an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor like galantamine, which prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain.

This is probably even the best lucid dreaming aid there is now.

I've noticed that red wine before bed increases vividness of my dreams
