Try to really question the reality while you are performing RC. Look around, try to imagine that this might be a dream and then ask yourself if it is.
I like to remind myself of this surreal feeling of dreams and kind of look for it in my surroundings just to make sure that it's not.
I hope it helps you and you soon get your LD. All the best.
When doing a reality check, I check my surrondings, notice any feelings I have, and then I ask the question "am I dreaming?" Then I take it further I and say to myself "this really could be a dream" then perform a reality check. If I'm doing the Palm through hand, I try to visualise my finger going through my hand at the same time while perform the RC. I also try to create that exciting feeling in my stomach to make it look and feel more real.

      Is this okay?

Absolutely. The only thing I'm not sure about is imagining excitement. Being overly excited in a dream can wake you up and you will be excited so there's no need to add to it. And I think that if you learn to associate RC with this feeling it can transform to a dream. But I'm not sure it's just a personal opinion. I always try to stay observant while performing RCs and it's been working perfectly for me, don't need anything else . So I think that even when you lose your motivation and stop doing research and trying other techniques you can still succeed this way.

Excitement in a dream can wake you up? I believe this to be bad schema.

It make sense though doesn't it? If you act your reality checks on emotions, and you feel that certain emotion in a dream it could make you lucid, right?

True, but since this piece of information is all over the internet there's a chance that a person can make this association and therefore make it happen in a dream. Especially when you're not experienced and keep overthinking what you've read/heard. Again, personal opinion. I was out of the picture for a long time so I'm not trying to play an expert, but give advice based on what I know
