      Is this a lucid dream?

I have had dreams before where I could control them- and I consider that LD'ing. Usually when I dream I know it's a dream, but the level of me knowing differs with each dream.

Last night I had a dream where my brother and I were in Meijer. My brother, in real life, has severe PTSD from the army and refuses to accept that. He thinks he has physical problems wrong with him, despite the hundreds of doctors he has been to with none of them finding anything physically wrong. Anyways, in the dream it felt extremely real. We were walking and talking and he was extremely angry with negative energy radiating off of him in excessive amounts (just like in rl). I tried reasoning with him but he kept on screaming about the same problems over and over, threatening my family and I and how we abandoned him, how he's right and all the doctors are wrong, how it's been 4 years and everyone but him is incompetent, etc. I bought him some healing herbs to help, spending the little money I have, and he wasn't appreciative. Something happened at the end but I don't remember... it caused me to huddle together, shut my eyes while rocking back and forth, and saying "wake up Jocelyn, wake up, wake up, please god let me wake up." Took a few seconds then I finally awoke. Woke up at 3:30am and was extremely shaken - first nightmare I had in awhile.

Is that considered a lucid dream? Because I knew I was dreaming? I used to do that all the time when I was a kid and had a nightmare, rocked back and forth and prayed to wake up.

If you knew you were dreaming, yes that's a lucid dream, or in this case, more like a lucid nightmare. It sounds like it was a lucid with low awareness, however, since you chose to wake yourself up rather than take control of the situation.

A lucid dream is a dream in which one knows they are dreaming. You knew you were dreaming during the dream, so that dream was a lucid dream.

The level of control or clarity during a dream doesn't determine whether that dream is lucid or not. Only the working knowledge that the dream is one makes a dream lucid.
