      ADA and study

alot of my time is spent looking at a computer screen trying to study. Itís hard to be aware of my surroundings. How do I implement all day awareness into my day?

      thanks

Yes, i spend way too much time working on a screen as well. Since i do get up to get food & beverages or use the facilities, I have arranged a few prompts to remind me to check if i am dreaming. When i go through a door, or turn my head to look out the door, etc. Also, it is always healthy to take a few minutes break per hour just to relieve the eyes. This is always a good time to focus on the breath and become aware of the space beyond the screen.

This is a tough one. As a disclaimer, I prefer "mindfulness" or "All Day Lucid Presence" (a term I used to describe my practice), as I think "ADA" is a bit vague and doesn't really describe the proper kind of awareness we're trying to develop for LD practice.

One suggestion is to work on body or hand awareness (gravity awareness is a subcategory of body awareness). Your hands are generally always with you, within your field of focus while using the computer, and your body of course is always with you, even on the computer.

It's very good for your health to take frequent breaks to stretch / stand up from computer use. These are excellent times to focus mindfully on the present moment experience.

Do you get frustrated when you notice you've "zoned out." Instead, be happy every time you come to this realization, because that is a moment where you've gotten lucid!

I've read also that taking a 10-15 minute break after a period of study where you just sit quietly with no stimulation works wonders on the efficacy of remembering the studied material. And getting enough high quality sleep, and avoiding alcohol. Alcohol seems to have very deleterious affects on the retention of new memories, even 3 days after the study event (from the well-known book "Why We Sleep").

I saw the same question on other web-site, so my answer will the same.

if you spend a lot of Your time at the computer - try to regulary checks for reality. for example, view the list of running processes. may be, viewing them you will find some unnormal processes - this can be a trigger for awareness. this is standard work with Delusional Loops.
