A good place for a DV meetup would be at the Burning Man Festival. We could set up a dream temple of something.

Don't ask what the burning man is, it's too hard to explain, just google it and check out the pictures.

Hey I've wondered what that would be like. That's a good idea to have a meeting planned in the midst of another event.

All you folks in the UK, you have a decent public transportation system. Maybe you could all commute in to Heathrow and take the underground together to Hyde Park?

That's a great idea... the only problem would be money.

Indeed it would, for me it would be difficult to get down there for a day, takes me about 3 hours to get down to london, probably even more for Pensive Patrick since he's in scotland.

I work in London. But that's just the problem, I work too much lol

So aside from location - it sounds like time and money are a recurring issue. If we could just tackle both of those, it becomes easier to get people together.

Time:
I got plenty of vacation time to start using so that won't be an issue with me. For other's I'd recommend trying to just take one (or even better, two) day right around a weekend (Friday or Monday - or both). That day can be used for traveling giving you more than a day to kick back wherever the location is. I'm sure we could all cover a lot in one day.

Money:
Seeker mentioned public transportation. If we pick a city with many access "ports" we would make it easier for people to choose what type of transportation fits their budget: bus, train, plain, auto. We forget here in the US that there is a train system in place, just need to figure out which cities have a stop.

Lastly there's the issue of having a place to stay overninght. If we get enough people, we can get a special "block" rate at a hotel - nothing fancy, just a place to crash overnight.

I've been thinking about taking Thursdays and Fridays off for a month just to go touring around. If I decide to roadtrip, maybe I can link up with any of you US members along the way.

I know this may sound like a bad idea but why don't we arrange a meetup for like a couple of years from now, that way we can make arrangements and people can sort out time and money and get permission slips It could work. DV Meetup 2009!!

I'm from the UK too, the WEST MIDLANDS area. Anyone else? Or is everyone else in the WEST MIDLANDS so thick. Honestly though, almost everyone I know is a moron who I just can't imagine doing anything like LDing.

Yep heres another UK member, I'm about 30 minutes from London Charing Cross, so anywhere in the centre of London is fine for me

Well its people i know, they couldn't care less about things like this, i'm sure they would like it if they fully understood it but since they don't listen to me they are missing out.

Maybe they're not interested because they don't want to spend the time planning and thinking it all out, stuff like this is do-able, it just takes time to actually make it work

And I hate it when people laugh. The first time I casually mentioned it to the most intelligent friend I have, he turned to the guy on the other side of him, made a goofy face , to indicate I was going on (i wasn't) then turned back and said "mmm... yeah.. I know what y'mean though..."

But normally he is interested in that sorta stuff, but he wasn't then.

I'm in a crappy little town 20 miles out from Manchester. Yeah, i guess people can't handle such topics in a mature way, its a shame really.

It would be so neat to have a DV meetup. Mostly, that would be very difficult. But, someday, I hope I am graced with the opportunity to meet up with some of you guys.
