      Do you experience Old Hag?

      Do you experience Old Hag?

I'm wondering how common this is.

Old Hag is the sense of a nasty presence during sleep paralysis. I understand it can be quite convincing and terrifying.

I've seen the old hag once in a dream state...it was really weird because things became erotic and...I won't go into details >_< Just know somehow I morphed her from an old hag into something better.

Since I don't know what it is, I guess not.

I mean I know what people say it is, but I have never seen it.

I'm not a fan of the "Old Hag" myth. If I ever get freaked out during SP it's definitely NOT because I think there's some batty old lady sitting on my chest. How strange.

At least once. I thought a shadowy figure was sitting in bed next to me, first observing me, with clipboard in hand, and then putting "its" arms around me. But the experience was mild. I felt creeped out, but not like it was going to kill me or anything.

The only other occasion was actually a lucid false awakening, in which there was a malevolent man in my room. But it was a dream/nightmare. It didn't happen during SP.

I've experienced it once or twice. Though, it hasn't happned to me a while the first time it was really convincing. I would imagine that it is really common for people to expereince this during SP. Though, during those intense moments I can't believe some people like it.

I used to feel a strange presence all the time and get really scared to the point of screaming but wasnt able to(thanks to the SP), but it all ended when i read about it and how other people besides me had the same problem. Now i use my very frequent episodes of sleep paralysis to WILD and i dont get freaked out anymore, instead i get happy

What we see is but an illusion.

Not for me either, I mean in SP I have sensed a shadow or presence but associated that to my girlfriend being in the room, or someone else like a flat mate, never associated it to an 'old hag'

I think most peoples experiences are because they know of the old hag, therefore thats what they would associate any shadow with. When we sleep, our eyelids do not shut out light perfectly, and as the night goes on simple things like a curtain blowing causing the light to change or anything as simple as this can cause the light on our eyes to change, and when in SP our minds associate this with what we know.

      Just my thoughts anyway

I used to experience the OLD HAG when I had spontaneous occurences of sleep paralysis in my teens and twenties. It would always start during a dream with a sense of an all pervading evil presence and end with my waking up but being paralyzed and washed with intense vibrations. It used to terrify me when it occured until I read a book about Out of Body experiences by Robert Monroe, I believe. He described something that sounded a lot like what I was experiencing, but he presented it as a method for separating from the body. So I started to look forward to the next occurence. When it happened, even though I still felt terrified, I no longer bought into the terror. I followed Monroe's directions, visualizing my secondary body rising up over my physical one, and then I started to rotate my secondary body. The experience then faded, and I never expereinced sleep paralysis again for almost twenty years. And then 4 months ago I started using galantmine supplements, and I experienced it again at the transition point. However, it was now just an interesting effect. Of course now, I feel real delight rather than terror at the onset of sleep paralysis and the intense vibrations because I know it is my golden oportunity to achieve WILD. Now I'm sweet on the Old Hag.

All my SP experiences have been strange, cool and trippy. Well usually I OBE but I have failed this and stayed in bed. With my eyes open I could lift my dream arms and when I looked at them they were a ghostly transparent. When I tried to move them, they moved about a second later so it was like having a bad mouse. Really wierd... I then proceeded to roll myself up into tape and knocked around on the floor immobilised- but none of it was scary.

I never had conscious SP before I knew about it, so I guessed that's why it wasn't scary. Similarly, my first OBE happened when I already knew about it.

By the way, I think of OBEs as just lucid dreams, to may they aren't as "real" as some people say they are. I never end to feel emotion in OBE or SP, it must be something to do with lucidity. If you feel scared you're probably very conscious. On the other hand in LDs you can fly across the world, annihalate a few cities and hump everything that moves and get no excitememt out of it just cos you're not conscious enough to enjoy it!

Never. SP for me, if experienced while anything less than fully asleep at all, is always a feeling of distortions and sinking with my eyes closed. No feeling of something pushing down on me, or some evil presence.

The distortion/sinking used to spook me sometimes, but now that I know that it can lead to lucid dreams, I welcome it and kind of enjoy it.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

I've never experienced sleep paralysis until I learned about lucid dreaming... I guess that means I've never had the chance to get freaked out by sleep paralysis (perhaps conjuring the old hag image through the fear). I only feel good vibrations, followed by intense dream imagery. Never something scary.
