Wow, he really seems to have something against it. Most people I know don't care about lucid dreams, but being afraid of them? Thats just silly.
I will try very hard not to say anything stupid. But be warned that this does not always work!

Some people are just too small-minded to understand this stuff. They think everything they don't understand is connected to newage crap and magical mumbo jumbo. Shame...for them.

Well i just found out that the guy from the conversation has somehow found out about this forum and thread. Weird eh?

I will let him remain unknown, but while you are here, hi dude! ;D

Hopefully now you can see that lucid dreaming isn't for weirdos, and that the people on this forum are infact smart individuals. So if you want to talk, i'd be happy to.

I generally find people to be idiots. It sounds conceded but then again, I guess i am. I don't know how many people have come to me saying why do i read books if i smoke pot. Most high school kids are generally ignorant sheep.

There are quite a few kids in my school that know about it though.I told this group of kids that I had my first lucid dream yesterday. One of them thought I took acid, and an other called me emo, luckily the female of the group knew what i was talking about and explained it to them. An other time I was reading a book called "Creative Dreaming" and someone came to me and said he read that book and that he use to lucid dream.

I realize that, don't look for people, the intelligent ones will reveal them selves.
      You loose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks they really found you.

Wow, that is pathetic. How can lucid dreaming give you a mental illness? Anyways, a tip is when explaining lucid dreaming, don't say lucid dreaming. Just tell them about being aware while they're dreaming.

I only bring it up if the topic being discussed is somewhat related to dreaming

Personnaly, I have only talked about this with only 2 people when during a conversation, one was talking about sleep and dreaming. So I asked if any of them had heard of lucid dreaming before. Both had and one even sponteanously had one recently. That's the cue where talking about your experience in lucid dreaming will lead to an interesting conversation.

Don't bring it up with some folks AT ALL, folks like HIM for example Unless you enjoy the fun from such conversations lol

Well I seem to have caused quite a stir, I wasn't really being serious and was instead trying to purposefully be funny (believe that if you will, but satire on msn is quite hard). I am quite an open minded person, and in no way shape or form would I be considered a "sheep" in my school, glad some people got a laugh out of it though I tried polyphasic sleep before (which this is nothing like this but still sorta sleep related), and seeing this website has encouraged me to try out lucid dreaming.

Right well there ya go, might even try this stuff out

Edit: I don't normally say maaan

U is three letters. 'You'. Type it out for a whole day and it'll come as fast as pressing the 'u' key.

I was told about lucid dreaming in much the same way and accepted it with a logical open mind. I expect someone to at least consider it as a serious and real thing. Just because it isn't accepted by the mainstream media on the level of, say, the fact that female celebrities have large breasts, doesn't lower its significance and possible applications to psychology.

People who write it off to such a degree is shallow in his or her thoughts, in my humble opinion.

Yeah I got a similar reaction, people either think its freaky or they dont believe it.

It is sad that people (including some on here) feel the need to insult those who dont fit theire sterotypical view on what is normal. It show a insulting lack of curiosity to dismiss it as strange or dangerous. But then as people on here have already said the majority of the world is a place were ignorance rules and breaking from the norm is considered social suicide....makes me angry! lol

I think it depends on the level of the people you associate with. I am around a lot of smart, open minded people, and I have talked to about 15 people about lucid dreaming. Not one of them reacted in the way this guy did, some had heard of lucid dreaming but had never done it, some had heard of it and had done it, and some had even done it not having a clue what it was and that it isn't "normal. Everyone was open to the idea...

Everybody is different. I wish I could look at it like that. For me, There is so much shit that has happened, and i hardly think we have learned from past mistakes, the future does not seem bright outside, only thing I can do is brighten the inside.

I sometimes wish I was stupid. If your intelligent, you know that the world is a fucked up place, If I was completely oblivious, I would be fine drinking beer and watching tv all day long, it would be paradise . but i am not.

at least that is how I look at it, but then again I'm a 17 year old boy, what do i really know.

And welcome snowdon. It is very hard to be satirical on aim.

I told one friend about it a few weeks after I learned about it. I asked him if, when he dreamed, if he knew he was dreaming. (cuz lucid wouldn't mean anything to him). He said no, and I told him I was looking into these techniques where you become aware inside of a dream and he said, "You're scaring me man."

I didn't bother to push it because I don't rightly care if he discovers how cool it is or not. I think if I told him it was like a virtual reality machine that allows you to have sex with whatever movie star you want and while it's happening you totally think it's real, I think he might be a little more interested. But whatever. This is my hobby.

I totally agree with OP that it's stupid to waste a third of your life doing nothing. I always thought that, even before I found out about this.
In dreams of unspeakable joy—of restored friendships; of revived embraces; of love which said it had never died; of faces that had vanished long ago, yet said with smiling lips that they knew nothing of the grave; of pardons implored, and granted with such bursting floods of love, that I was almost glad I had sinned—thus I passed through this wondrous twilight. —George MacDonald

Actually, all this LD'ing stuff is pretty pointless.
I have 1 LD every 2 months, so it's not like I'm gonna extend my life with 33%.

I told my mum today, only because she saw me copying stuff from my journal onto the forum and was curious what the book was. I asked if she knew about dreams where you know your dreaming and she said yeah, so I said I'm trying to get more of them. She was surprised and asked "you want more of them? Why?". She said it as if it was a stupid question, like no-one in their right mind would want to have them. So I said, once your realize its a dream, you can do anything you want. Anything you've ever wanted to do in real life but couldn't. Fly, Beat someone up without consequences etc...

A friend I told reacted the same way. She was all like "wtf? why would u do that?"

One of my best mates though is cool with it. He likes hearing my dreams, and tells me his. But he won't try to have LDs himself, I don't know why, too much effort I guess. Maybe one day he'll have one by chance and realize how awesome it feels.
Same with me, my friends are like: whats the point? Only have one friend who does it,he uses this forum. Why can't people understand thats its really cool?

People are scared of what they don't understand.
I don't know why, but a lot of people seem to be scared of the idea of knowing your dreaming while its happening... I just don't get it. You've dreamed your whole life, but knowing its happening is scary?

Btw, where did that pic you link to in your sig come from? I just read it and realized it describes me perfectly! I like the colour blue, find it calming. My dream name is Bluey according to a DC. I often see blue things in dreams that I like. Like a big pit of blue mud spiraling into the ground like a whirlpool, or giant blue warrior ants. My enemies are also red and green. Just last week I was being chased by 2 DCs, they were assigned the colours of red and green and there were colour traps on the ground. There were red and green panels and as they walked over them they would get stuck and there'd be a DING sound. I also value knowledge and logic. Thats creepy.

(off topic, but its my thread so ) : Hey phonix, put image wraps around the link in your signature.

Replace the ( with [ and the ) with ]

      (img)YOUR LINK HERE(/img)

      -----------------

And yea, i dont see how knowing you are dreaming is scary. People seem to think that once you realise, you will start to have a nightmare. But..so what? you will know its not real.
