      Angry Some people!...

Just had a conversation with one of my friends from school on msn. Tried to tell them about lucid dreaming, and to say the least..im not impressed. Heres the conversation:

      -----------------------------------------------------------

Him: you really shouldn't try that shit

Him: it messes you up maaan

Me: nah im not messing my sleep patterns

Him: that lucid dreaming sounds pretty intense maaan

      Me: Lol

Him: careful you dont od and end up dead

      Me: rofl!

      Him: christ kyle

Him: dont look too much into it

Him: theres a reason why it dosent happen naturally

      Me: it does happen naturally..

Me: theres nothing rong with knowing you are dreaming =/

Him: you'll end up with some sort of mental illness

      Me: Lol. no.

      Him: sounds a bit dangerous

Me: The only thing you do to increase the chances is, in the morning, try to remeber your dreams

      Me: thats it

Me: that way, you get used to what your dreams are like, and when they happen, you will know you are dreaming

Me: you normally have more than 5 dreams a night

Me: i bet you dont remeber 5 dreams every morning

Me: Im not into any of this new-age out of body crap

      Me: so dont worry =p

Him: well i dont rightly give a shit

      Me: >_<

      Him: dreaming is useless

Me: you spend 25 years of your life doing it

Him: i would be fine with if we just went to sleep and woke up

Me: thats 1 thrid of your life

      Me: third*

      Him: stupid over developed brain

      Him: well woop de doo

Me: well thats up to you =p but id rather be having fun than wasting 25 years xD

Him: i probably spend ages on the toilet as well adn dont try to lucid poo

      Me: You are freaking impossible..

Well, maybe you got him to think about it a little. With luck, he will research the topic a little before your next conversation and you can have a meaningful exchange of information with him about it.

My friends are always accepting of the idea but never act on it in any way shape or form. I swear, I can't find anyone IRL who shares any of my interests, much less lucid dreaming. >.<

most people i tell thinks its down right weird, alot of the time i only have to say "lucid dreaming" and they think that. i think most people dont want try it becuase of all the effort it takes. how many people besides us will get up at 3:00 just to go back to bed? one kid at my school became interested in it when i told him all the other didnt care , i believe he's trying to be a member here right now.

the real reason i tell people is to get them hooked so i can talk to them about LDing.

      I second this ^

I've told a few people but only a couple listened and none of them acted on it. I hate it to see people waste the potential Lucid Dreaming has

When i first started LDing i had "Am I awake?" in nico on my hand. Got a lot of strange looks from people and most of my friends say why do you even bother and gave smug bs responses, i told them to go shove it. Now one of them has it written on his hand to

Just wait for it to sink in. I find most people too ignorant to even talk about the subconsciousness and dreaming and brush it off as 'new-age garbage'. I say who cares what it is. Its damm cool. And OBE rocks your socks, real or not so im all for the "new-age garbage".

I don't like to say it, but some people are dumber than door nails. I really don't understand why people can't just open themselves up for new ideas. Considering new things is one of the best things in life. We are kind of dependent on them. Lol, you should make fun of him a tad bit about being a dummy, toy with him, then he might actually want to learn something...but then again, maybe not.

Sounds like your friend is a close-minded moron. LOL.

I've told 4 different people. They all thought it was pretty neat.
You do this every fucking time.

There's nothing "unintelligent" or "moronic" about envy. In essence.

People become hostile when they are envious of others. In this case, however, it could of course be both envy and lack of knowledge, though obviously seeing that others have more knowledge than you causes envy. But the mistake you made was explaining it straight away.

By doing so, you showed a sort of desperation. Instead, you should have said flat out something along the lines of, "Listen, I've devoted quite some time to researching this and I have the facts. I think I know a bit more about this than you do". That way, the envy would grow into curiosity and respect for your knowledge, not the kind of envy that causes denial and hostility.

I've only told 3 people. I don't bother really telling anyone because people just dismiss dreaming as if its pointless. They just don't understand that it can be so much fun and doesn't take any time out of your life, because you spend that time doing nothing normally.

I told my mum today, only because she saw me copying stuff from my journal onto the forum and was curious what the book was. I asked if she knew about dreams where you know your dreaming and she said yeah, so I said I'm trying to get more of them. She was surprised and asked "you want more of them? Why?". She said it as if it was a stupid question, like no-one in their right mind would want to have them. So I said, once your realize its a dream, you can do anything you want. Anything you've ever wanted to do in real life but couldn't. Fly, Beat someone up without consequences etc...

A friend I told reacted the same way. She was all like "wtf? why would u do that?"

One of my best mates though is cool with it. He likes hearing my dreams, and tells me his. But he won't try to have LDs himself, I don't know why, too much effort I guess. Maybe one day he'll have one by chance and realize how awesome it feels.

I regret telling my friends about LDing..

Now all they say to me is

Friend 1: "WOAH I HAD A LUCID DREAM LAST NIGHT!"
Friend 2: "IM HAVING A LUCID DREAM RIGHT NOW"

      Unintelligent friends suck (-_-)

Yup... I, too, have quite a few friends who are either afraid to try "such" things, or just couldn't care less about the whole lucid dreaming topic. Hell, maybe I wouldn't care about it, if it hadn't been for that one lucid dream a few years back that started it all.

But then again - trying to be objective, maybe they have a point. I mean - I enjoy lucid dreaming immensely, after waking up I feel absolutely great etc. And even though I think it's all natural and what not, the pleasure of lucid dreaming MIGHT just have a price tag attached to it. So people who are a bit paranoid about these things must be understood, although they do get on your nerves from time to time, no doubt about that.

But yeah... trying to convince these young scientists is a fruitless effort. I say let them stay in their world of algorithms and angles... Of course, knowing that lucid dreaming is one of the few things that could stop these wiseacres from building more and more bombs makes it a bit difficult to just idly stand by.

Hi, U are right...it comes with a price tag. All the reasons to just get some sleep...Y bother about WILD or reality checks..:p. It really depends on what Ur using Lucid Dreaming for....if it's just for some thrills with no real reason then it's probably not worth the effort. I've been persuing it for almost 2years plus...still strugling to find regular lucidity moments......

I don't bother teling people, they are either enver interested or they pull the whole new age card on me. To be honest i wouldn't even call lucid dreaming a new age sort thing, its spiritual to some people, but to most of us it is just a process that we sometimes encounter through control.

I find that people are too immature nowadays to even think about this sort of thing, which is a shame because it can be life changing.

lucid poo! I just started cracking up in the middle of my university library...
I like how he tried to make "over-developed brain" sound like a bad thing...
and your point about not wasting 25 years of your life is a valid one, and can still be applied to pooing:
Since you are in fact fully lucid when you poo, you can use that time to your advantage by reading a good book

No one I've told in real life thinks the idea is of any use. My mom finds it weird.

      I don't get why.
