Falling asleep while trying to wild.

Normally when I try to wild I end up just falling asleep! Is this normal? Also is it possible to wild when you first go to bad or does it have to be later when you have woken up? I have tried both. I have only come close to wilding once and I got scared and came out of it.

I think your problem seems to be your conscious anchor isn't strong enough, you need to get the right mixture of thoughtlessness, imagery and awareness. This is definitely the hardest thing to do. So yea, its very normal, happens to me all the time!

Also, most people in these forums think its nearly impossible to WILD before first going to sleep, however my friend (whose been lucid dreaming for about a year now) finds it fairly easy to WILD at this stage. But he goes to bed at like 2:00am every night/morning, so he's probably tired enough to do it straight away...

      Hope this helps

Most of the people wild during WBTB, becouse you get right into REM stages where imagery is boosted. When you try this at the evening you get yourself into situation when you snuggle down in bed and no imagery comes. Or you just fall asleep. If you would like to know why, just study brain waves.

Yeah, you cant be too awake or too relaxed when trying to WILD. You need to learn and practice that exact balance between the two in order to successfully WILD. You cannot be too aware or you will continue to awake yourself from excitement and/or shock and you cannot be too unaware or you will obviously fall asleep.
So it seems pretty difficult but its really easier than it sounds. Once you start practicing it, you'll get it in no time!

It depends on how tired I am. If I'm sleep I usually have more success WILDing when I first go to bed because I can feel "waves of sleep" come over me and am usually able to enter a conscious sleep state. Although i did have sleep paralysis (before I knew what it was) for well over 14 years so that helped, as all my instances of sleep paralysis were upon going to bed and happened almost immediately. I do sometimes have success during naps as well.

Does anyone else get the sensation of what I call waves of sleep? It's like I feel a wave come over me and then it goes away, but the timing is pretty consistent. Once it gets stronger I can usually "ride that wave" right into a lucid dream. It's definitely a physical "sign" I feel while trying to WILD. Not sure how else to describe it.
