Dreaming is one of the few times I feel connected to what used to be my spiritual impulses. Through following the methods of lucid dreaming I can achieve things I never could when I was interested in the occult.

Dreaming lets me analyses my day to day life from a different perspective.

Dreaming inspires and informs my world view and relations with other people.

Dreaming is one of the few aspects of anyone's life that is totally controllable, and in that sense... alterable. Its a pretty exciting concept to be able to realize your potential in this area.

Plus, you spend what is it, like 1/3 of your life asleep ? Why not enjoy it.

      spiritual endeavors

and understanding my psyche. in otherwords, I want the big cheese of dreaming, not just wasting me time doing nothing useful in a dream. through dreams I've seen problems in my psyche that need resolving, and have had experiences that continuously have me on the edge of my seat of reality

like I have have a dream where, things are absolutely so real. solid. solid real. and I question, how could my subconscious create all of this? and whether the answer is, its not my subconscious its another world *the astral* or it is my subconscious, it doesn't matter. both answers are amazing.

or another dream where, I would border line call it, a shared dream. in this dream, my friend was there. sure you can say 'dream character' but at the time I felt she was very real. and in that dream I learned something about her I never knew. and confirmed this truth about her the next day!

since then I've been trying to recreate that dream, have a shared dream with my friend. that would shatter this contained sense of reality that I live in

Lucid dreaming is the ultimate toy. There are almost no limits on what you can do, even impossible things. Also, talking to my subconscious would be pretty cool.

Basically so I can be in control, like what Aeron said. And since we only use 3% of our brain's capacity, hopefully, this is a way to harness that other 97%, or at least use something. Plus I feel like I'm getting to understand my subconscious more, since it's always been a mystery to me.

Well, if I sleep for 8 hours per day, that's 1/3 of the day, or 1/3 of my life as long as that continues at the same rate. I don't want to have forgotten 1/3 of my life!!! That's why I'm writing in my dream journal daily, anyway. The reason I want to dream? So that I don't feel like sleep serves no purpose other than to make me awake the next day. It's the same reason why I enjoy my senses of taste and smell when eating. Oh, and textures of the food are important too! To me, losing the ability to dream during sleep would be akin to not being able to touch, smell, or taste the food I am eating. Functional...and that's it. I'd probably stop sleeping.

Because you spend almost half your life sleeping. May as well learn to control
what you're doing when you're dreaming.

As you bring this topic up i think... My whole life i have always loved to dream even tho most of what i know now, i didn't have a clue about when i was younger.

I assume dreaming appeals to us in a more basic way then we can ever hope to explain.

The main reason I like to dream (particularly lucid dreaming ) is well, because it's fun, and as so many before me mentioned, you spend 1/3 of your life asleep, so you might as well remember it and be in control of some of it.

I agree. The mundanity of the everyday world is also starting to get on my nerves. Even if you can only make your dreams come true IN your dreams... well, it's a start!

would you consider it strange if an alien spent several hours prone each night while their soul roamed in another dimension? We are strange creatures..

Fun. And make discoveries. I constantly have dilemmas in my life, and dreams are a good time to spend thinking about solutions.

My dreams tend to be very surreal and seemingly symbolic. I tend to follow more in the Jung school of psychology than the Freud, particularly when it comes to dreams and the subconscious.

So I enjoy dreaming because it takes me to the depths of my subconscious mind and unravels things that I can't put my finger on in my waking life.

Also, I enjoy dreaming because it's a form of escapism and reminds me to keep check of reality.

I enjoy dreams because they're amazing, but also because I'm sick of all my logic and baggage clogging my ability to see life in different ways in waking life (especially dealing with depression). It's nice once in a while to see the true potential of myself, life and the universe in general. While I'm alive for a short period of time, why the hell not?
