      lucid dreaming.... i duno man..

Well first of all i have done quite a bit of reading on lucid dreaming and read you can do a lot of things lucid dreaming such as healing and all, fun, sex, uhm other stuff. so my question is can you get bored of lucid dreaming ?
like i read this article once that said the guy got so bored of lucid dreaming he stopped doing it. oh ya and btw i have never lucid dreamt before and have been trying ultra super mega hard to lucid dream from all the stuff i heard.
so i was wondering if you do something in your lucid dream do you become as good at it in reality. like basketball i really really wanna get better at basketball and what if i just like shoot around in my dreams will i get better at shooting in reality? and can i play a game with like my dream characters but no exactly control them fully, because if i will be able to control them i wont get better. like can i be like i wanna face ricky(the best baller i know) in his real skill and both of us will play a one on one game will i get better ?
if that can happen how can someone get bored of lucid dreaming
I mean i would just shoot around in my dreams if theres nothing else to do.
oh ya and can you slow down time in lucid dreams ? or like fastforward and rewind it. and can you make all the dc act like they would in normal life and like you know basically live life buh experiment with what will happen.

and another thing abt lucid dreaming is .. how come its not popular? i mean its virtual reality for free .why dont people know abt it .

lately i have been getting really discouraged because i have never been able to lucid dream and i want to soo DAMN badly like seriously man i wanna do so many things i cant tell you guys. i wish i was a 'natural' possibilities would be endless... i tried so many wilds, mild couple of times, do reality checks all the time. im gona try wbtb tonight .. sometimes i just think of giving up...
i just see what you people have to say

first of all, you can do anything in a lucid dream.

you will become lucid one day, just keep at it.

I doubt that you will get better. I would say that since your mind is controlling everything in your dream you could shoot from halfway around the world and still swish it...in other words you could "get better" in your dream but it could just be your mind playing tricks on you. I would suggest just practicing in real life. I'm not trying to say that Bball in LD wouldn't be fun, because I like playing soccer in dreams, but just that you probably won't get any better.

when i do it, i keep saying it aloud untill i fall asleep. i havent been able to do it recently because it requires a lot of concentration, which i dont have right now.

so what you should do is, keep saying it with a lot of focus till you fall asleep, dont let your mind wander.

Even if you try to get it just like reality, your mind is still in full control of where the ball goes and what the opposing players do...so I'd say no

actually there is a way to control only your actions and let everything else do its thing, so it is possible to get better, infact there is a member of this site who got better at drawing through dreaming, although thats kind of a different thing.

Well if you are not directly in control of everything else then your subconscious mind is..its not like there is anything else that could control it.

Pick up a copy of Stephen LaBerg's Exploring the World of Lucid Dreams. In it he theorizes (and I think he claims that it is backed by research) that you can get better at physical activities if you practice them in LDs. His reasoning is like this: when we dream our mind thinks that it's real and it sends neurological impulses to the muscles, but our body is paralyzed by a hormone, so our muscles don't move. Thus, you can improve your "muscle memory" by practicing in LDs.

He's the Authority when it comes to LDing, so I'll take his word for it--though I'm not good enough at LDing yet to actually test any of the more advanced stuff out.

Also, if someone on here got better at drawing by practicing in lucid dreams, then this would suggest that we can also hone our cognitive-spacial-perceptual abilities (like seeing or imagining the shapes in a 3D figure and translating them to 2D, or lining up a shot in basketball).

The only way to know for sure is to get good at LDing and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, well then you can just have fun every night instead.

Yes. You can train motion sequences in your mind and automatically become better at executing them with your body. Don't expect your muscles to grow or your consitution getting better that way though.

I don't see how you could get bored by lucid dreaming. I mean you have to live everyday of your life more often than not repeating the same mundane schedule over and over. In a dream you can do whatever you want with no limitations. To me dreams are an alternate existence one where you can do anything you can imagine.

The only way I would get bored of lucid dreaming is if my actual life became a lucid dream. At least then I would have complete control instead of the hit and miss of dreams.

Anyone who says that is lying. They bring up that notion, but never include any detail that suggests they know the slightest thing about lucid dreaming. Not to mention the level of control needed for that type of scenario is damn near impossible. Even the best lucid dreamers fail quite frequently at things they attempt.

There is data to back it up. You can improve your game by lucid dreaming it!

That being said, I hope it works the same way for Calculus...

Anyway, it's like any other hobby. Does a tennis player ever get bored of tennis? I doubt he'll ever get bored, but that might be his excuse when his game goes lame (when he becomes too old to play well, and becomes insecure about his abilities).

As already said I do also not think that lucid dreams become boring ever, but there are several people who stopped it because they had real life problems/more important stuff going on in the real life so they could/did not want to concentrate on lucid dreaming for a while.

so i was wondering if you do something in your lucid dream do you become as good at it in reality. like basketball i really really wanna get better at basketball and what if i just like shoot around in my dreams will i get better at shooting in reality?

It is definetly, as you can improve movement sequences and learn things also in lucid dreams. It will not be possible to train like in real life, with physical motion, but it is, in some aspects.
      Heres a quote from Wikipedia:

Paul Tholey used lucid dreams systematically, to learn complex motion sequences. With this it was possible for him to "train" physicaly difficult sports like skateboarding and snowboarding in his dreams and with that prepare moves etc. for the waking life or perfect learned things.

and can i play a game with like my dream characters but no exactly control them fully, because if i will be able to control them i wont get better. like can i be like i wanna face ricky(the best baller i know) in his real skill and both of us will play a one on one game will i get better ?

All you do and all things and Characters(!) in your dreams are just products of your mind, so everyone you will challenge and everyone you meet will behave as your mind wants him to behave. This also means that a ball cann fly with loopings just to the basket and hit it from a totaly unrealistic distance.

if that can happen how can someone get bored of lucid dreaming
I mean i would just shoot around in my dreams if theres nothing else to do.
oh ya and can you slow down time in lucid dreams ? or like fastforward and rewind it. and can you make all the dc act like they would in normal life and like you know basically live life buh experiment with what will happen.

I think it is able to slow down time like in matrix style, read of people who often experience this in lucid dreams.

and another thing abt lucid dreaming is .. how come its not popular? i mean its virtual reality for free .why dont people know abt it .

I think there are two main reasons why it is unpopular.
On one hand it is very hard to learn, and noone can prove that it will happen. Many people see sleep just as a time for relaxing and dreaming as something very unimportant.
On the other hand I think that many people just do not believe it (which may be a consequence of it's unpopularity), have you never talked to someone like "I can control my dreams and fly and summon monsters" and he was just like ?

lately i have been getting really discouraged because i have never been able to lucid dream and i want to soo DAMN badly like seriously man i wanna do so many things i cant tell you guys. i wish i was a 'natural' possibilities would be endless... i tried so many wilds, mild couple of times, do reality checks all the time. im gona try wbtb tonight .. sometimes i just think of giving up...
i just see what you people have to say

Don't give up, I'm shure it's worth it, but maybe you try just too hard. Maybe take a week break, keep filling you dreamjournal but rest a bit from attempts of lucid dreaming. And then give it a try again, I'm shure that this can help. Good Luck in the future and I hope I could answer some of your questions.

      Why? Probably because:

of attitudes like that, especially for people who are skeptical to begin with or just don't have the discipline and willpower. Why people don't know about it? Some people I talk to think it's an acid trip. Others think its newage bullshit. Some believe in it, but lie to themselves and just won't put in the effort. Some people won't buy into it because of religion. Some people don't even have recall and find the whole concept absurd. I'm sure there are many other reasons, too.

Was lucid dreaming ever a topic in a popular TV program format?

(I guess not, because you can't just buy it. And because you can't make money with it, no one does marketing for lucid dreaming and therefore it's not popular.)

i heard that WILDing is like the hardest technique right? so mayb if you've been spending all your time trying to wild that might be why your getting discouraged? i have a friend who can ld but has been able to naturally for as long as he can remember. just thought everyone could, (luky sod haha) and he used to study for exams in his dreams. except i dunno how coz isn't writing all screwed up. anyway that's what he was saying. maybe he did sums and stuff in his head.
      Total LD's = 6 and counting! lol
