      Lucid Dreams for Enlightenment

I want to know how many of you out there have used (or would like to use) lucid dreaming for actual enlightenment and what that experience was like. I personally believe dreams in general can be very enlightening and lead to genuine insight into real life problems. I believe lucid dreaming offers the potential to lessen the chance element of this process.

One real life passion of mine that poses many problems is chess. Many advancements I've made in my chess ability had some connection with the unfettered realm of dreams.

Throughout the years of playing chess I've had a few periods of dry spells where my skill level sort of "plateaus" (a common occurrence amongst chess players) and improvement becomes difficult. These plateaus were usually broken by a sharp incline of advancement and interestingly these advances where almost always preceded with several dreams about chess positions, patterns, etc. It's as if my mind was trying to make sense of all the random information it's absorbed and it starts to coalesce into something usable.

I hope that through lucid dreaming I can advance not only my chess, but how I approach my artwork, interactions with people, reality, and life itself. I hope that by sharing these experiences with each other that we can all gain something and learn how to benefit (beyond entertainment) from this awesome ability that many of us have invested much time and energy developing.

      I sure do!
I really enjoyed that 3rd paragraph about how all the infomation youd absorbed coalesced in your dreams, i had the exact same with drawing.

I need to work on my social interaction with people and im sure i can improve this with DCs that are interested in conversation.

Glad you enjoyed it! Dreams have influenced a lot of my artwork as well; even more so now that I'm improving my lucid dreaming skills.

Yeah, I believe most of us would concur that becoming aware while dreaming is a form of enlightenment. I'm wondering though if you have enlightenment beyond just becoming aware that you're dreaming; especially in regard to real life applications such as music, art, science, philosophy, etc.

      Thanks for your replies.

well, I do 3d animation and also flash cartoons as a hobby/future profession hopefully, and atm I've had like 40-45ld's (sig is outa date) and while some dreams definitely related to them in some way but I can't say they've truly shown me something "useful" per say, perhaps that's because my lucid dreams are usually just a few minutes...

Hm, does studying on them count as enlightenment? I sometimes do that, or to study some kind of problem, or simply study nature of some theorys, of course I never write those down on internet <.<

I don't know if that counts as enlightenment, but it gets my vote as very cool. Being a productivity freak, I'd love to check off some (mental) todo list tasks while dreaming.

I do. It's helped me learn to pay attention to myself more and listen to my inner voice.
It's also provided me with a lot of "uh ha" moments when it comes to writing.

Yes! That is exactly what I look for in dreams. I love to see how my mind makes new connections between seemingly unrelated things. Even if I can't find a direct use for the connections, I know it is useful to take notice of them and file them away for later.

I treat dreaming like sketching. When you get really into sketching, you start to throw ideas down that you never even knew you had. You surprise yourself.

Although it doesn't happen that often, i think i've used lucid dreaming to solve difficult problems i've been working on for my job, sometimes seeing the problem and all it's elements as a clear visual structure in my dream, and i'm able to move it around and manipulate it freely. Then i find the next day i go to work and suddenly can solve the problem.

This has sadly only happened a few times, usually i'm far more interested in flying and other stuff to think about work in LDs

Anyone do this sort of thing regularly?

but yeah in general i'd agree - any lucid dream is like a kind of enlightenment...

I have been thinking about this topic a lot recently actually.. see i'm a musician, and i have heard stories of people writing beautiful songs in thier dreams, then actually creating them in real-life.. i have always wanted to just start playing my guitar or piano in a lucid dream i have, and hearing how it comes out.. but i havent ever tried it yet.. i should try soon.
Have you ever had a dream... that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

Back when I first learned of lucid dreaming I remember reading an article about some 18th century musician named Giuseppe Tartini that wrote a song that he had learned from a dream. The song is called the Devil's Trill and is in my opinion worth checking out; it's haunting and beautiful.

Anyway, during the dream the devil came to Tartini and played this song with such superior skill that it astonished Tartini and upon awaking Tartini tried desperately to recall and write down the song.

In Tartini's words what he had written was: "so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever."

A pretty fantastic example, but one has to wonder what kinds of things like this we have locked away in our unconscious minds.

I do believe getting the right sleep is the key to efficient learning. Even in deep sleep, I will occassionally become aware that my mind has been chattering on about [insert math/chemistry/spanish topic here]. I'm curious to see how effective studying in a lucid dream would be.

As for enlightenment in the sense of life and reality? Don't search only your dreams.

Yeah, i've done stuff like that too.

Recently I fell asleep thinking about math and when I woke up, I was still thinking about it and all I could remember of dreams was math equations being solved.

I was totally just like "yuck" but it really DID consolidate the concepts for what i'd been playing around with the whole night ;P

I wish I could enlighten myself in lucid dreams.

I always end up getting distracted and wasting them on dumb stuff. but they're still fun .

in a recent lucid I had a big golden light appear and tell me stuff. I don't recall the exact words/content but it was the type of stuff you expect benevolent bright lights to tell you,
