Convincing friends to learn to LD

Has anybody tried to assimilate a friend or two into the LD community? I was able to do this for one of my friends. He's pretty crazy, just like me XD. What about you guys? Also, I wasn't sure where to post this so I won't be shocked if this post is moved.

I've gotten a friend or two a little interested in it quite a few years back, but I'm sure they're not anymore.

Don't bother to convince. Just tell them what it is, tell the facts and see if they are interested. Otherwise you will seem to them like an over-eager pious missioner.

      No one likes those.

I got a friend into it but she doesn't come on this site very much. She has had one lucid dream since joining but I think it was from reading so much about it and ect.
She doesn't really strive to learn how but is definitely interested

I tell many of my close friends and relatives about it and they are all very interested. A couple of my good friends eve tried it out for a while but they all quit and failed because of the workload haha. In my opinion the best thing to do, like Unelias said, is to tell them the facts and also show them dreamviews because if they ever want to actually get into it they have a ton of information on how to.

After talking about lucid dreaming, one of my friends became interested in dream interpretation (started a journal for that purpose), another claimed expertise in non-lucid dream incubation (she prefers non-lucid, 100% immersive dreams), and another took it as a potential afterlife.

I've tried getting my friends to learn Lucid draming!
Most my friends think it sounds amazing.. though they are far too lazy to learn it!
Most my friends cant be bothered to write down thier dreams in the morning, let alone RC! And some of my friends think it sounds 'weird' xD

One of my friens however thinks its amazing and shes working on remembering her dreams better and RCing

I've gotten a few friends interested in it. None of them have actually pursued it to any real degree. Normally they are just interested for a week or two, then forget all about it.

when I first learned to LD I told many people about it, but soon realised most either gave me blank stares and stuff, so now I don't bother to mix my dream life with my RL life, the internetz has more than enough people to talk to about LD's.
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus

I've gotten 3 referrals since November, all of them real life friends. They all kind of gave up on it after a while. A couple of my friends are somewhat interested, and listen about it (several mornings, I could be found writing my dreams down on loose leaf paper until I could get to a computer) but never really wanted to learn.

Which leads us to a conclusion that the curious and those who are deeply motivated to learn will search us out anyways. Like many other things, I personally think lucid dreaming can be considered a form of calling. You don't convert people or lure them to try it. Of course subtle advertising is always good, but LD is still seen as supernatural or anti-religious in some circles. Maybe telling that it is purely explainable by normal logic and scientific approach would do the greatest trick.

Biggest problem is the lazyness of people and the need for immediate success ( read : impatience )

      Damn our modern society.

Yes! two of my best friends are now in the club!! my mother had a couple of LDs aswell I preach it to everybody i meet and most people are interested though they are rarely patient enough to actually keep it going, but the reward is worth all effort! as you know fellow dreamers

whenever I'm with my friends I make them reality check whenever I do, just to hopefully induce a random one for them. because I know once they experience it, there's no going back.

In fact, many do have lucid dreams when they try LD for a while, but after they notice that they were flukes and it takes practice, they start losing interest.

It depends on who you talk to. To some it sounds fun. To others it might seem a bit "weird" as if it's something that has a tag of the "occult" on it. However, to other people the idea of it sounds spiritual and almost challenges their current beliefs whether they are religious or not.

I almost got a friend into it, but he's wiccan, and we started having almost a contest, to see which one could convince the other to join their "thing".

Him: I'm Saggitarius, so my metal is tin and my element is fire.

Me: Well, I can do whatever the hell I want, no matter what I am.
Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.

      Agree with this completely.

I guess it's like if one of my friends tried to get me to take up Origami. Simple fact is, it's never going to happen, no matter how much they sell it to me as fun.
