Reality checks failing isn't an uncommon occurrence. Some RC's, however, are more prone to failing than others. The finger-through-the-palm RC can work okay, but it is kinda more likely to fail than some of the others, such as the nose-pinch RC. Different methods work for different people. Looking at your hands is also rather user-specific. For some, it works great. For others, not so much.
I'd have to say to go with the nose-pinch RC. From reading through the other user's comments, it seems to be the one least prone to failing. I would also back up whatever RC you choose with at least two more, and I would also strive to increase mental alertness.
I've never gotten lucid off of an RC before; it's always been sort of a sudden realization. Time will tell, though...3 isn't exactly a great set of data to base statistics off of.
