      Awareness without Lucidity?

Last night I've had my first dream in which I've realized that I was dreaming (and pointing out to myself how overly odd the dream was, I believe), but at no point did I actually gain lucidity.

It's pretty disappointing, since that's the goal and I just got set-backed.

Lucidity is defined as knowing that you are dreaming while dreaming. If you realized if you were dreaming, it doesn't matter if you did anything or not, it was still a lucid dream.

^ Yup. That's the main definition of lucid dream.

^ Correction: That's THE definition of a lucid dream.

@Sprank: I refer you to the following site to do a little more research for yourself on lucid dreaming: This one. It'll help.
      DV Dictionary. / Verious: a definition. /

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

There's varying levels of lucidity. One time, you might be lucid but only comment on the nature of the dream, without actually "being there". Another time, you might be fully aware and "all there".
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Weird, same instance last night. I said something in my dream which didn't make sense, and I said to myself 'I don't know what I'm saying'. Like someone else was speaking for me and I was talking to myself in my head confused.

I'm going to assume this is the same thing, though I'm curious if the fact I keep getting them is a good thing or a bad thing.

Another similarity is me accepting things that have happened in the past which also make no sense, and couldn't have happened. Not necessarily related, though this would probably match up well with the 'Think of what you did 3 minutes ago' trigger.

Awareness IS Lucidity. I think you might be confusing Lucidity with Dream Control, which are two completely different things.

Maybe, though in all of my lucid dreams I haven't had any control. Other than control of me, in the dream. The past couple of dreams I've had have seemed like my 'dream-self' has kept control, but I'm somehow thinking to myself consciously during the dream.

I suppose it'd be comparing me being in the dream to me watching the dream.

Controlling things other than yourself in a dream takes practice. Most people try flying as their first thing, which is where they control just themselves. Another is where poeple try to summon something, which would be controlling the dream and yourself. Try comparing it to playing a piano. It's easy to use just your right hand (yourself) and you then progressively get better, while later on you add in the left hand (Other things in your dream) and then get progressively better with that, and try to synch them together.

You can be aware and alert without realizing you are asleep... but usually, you become aware of being asleep shortly after.
There is that small moment where you just start to question things.
