I have a habit that I'm curious about. Can it help me reach lucidity?

When I'm in bed trying to sleep, most of the time, I slip into a state where I feel awake, yet at the same time, I'm dreaming, like my body is awake, but my mind isn't. I know what's happening in the dream, but I can't see it, and I'm half-aware of outside influences, like the fan.

Usually when this happens, the "half-dream," as I refer to them as, involves walking or falling, and I snap back to full awareness when either I hit the ground (falling) or I either trip or get hit by a car (walking). They always end when there is some kind of impact.

This happens almost every night, is there any way I can, persay, take advantage of it and reach lucidity and eventually dream control?

Oh, okay. When I lay, trying to sleep, it's like I start daydreaming, only it's a little more vivid than than. It's more vivid than any normal daydream, but less vivid than a normal dream. It's like I'm half awake, I feel my body there in bed, but my mind is somewhere else. Oh, if it helps, I'm always on my back when this happens

Well, there is such a thing called hypnic jerk. That's when you falling asleep and your legs jerk, as if you tripped and you are trying to recover, or as if you fell from somewhere, and that wakes you up. Maybe with you it's accompanied with some short dream or some other visual?

Strange, though, I don't notice my legs jerking when it happens.

I think you are refering to hypnagogic imagery. When you relax for some time and focus on your thoughts and daydream they will after some time be very random and for me this is basically dreaming but in N-REM (not sure if it is that though). At first it's random and you can for a few seconds percieve a vivid scene, by seeing, hearing and sometimes feeling.
Later on it gets more controlable and it is like a dream, more vivid than a daydream but less vivid than a REM-dream.

Experiment with it and see where it leads you If you can entertain yourself with this long enough you will soon find yourself in the dream, more vivid and clear and REM.

Good luck and tell us how it goes

So, continue to let it happen and see what kind of dreams I have afterwards? I could try that.

The thing that I'm kinda worried about is that they always end by themselves, usually through some kind of impact in the dream itself, without my control. I'm left as awake afterwards as I was beforehand. Is there anything I can do about this? A mantra, perhaps?

What I would do in that situation, would be to just continue daydreaming until it automatically become that half vivid state again, because when you do that, you are actually consciously sleeping.

But that just me I am sure though that if you just contnue doing this and get used to and familiar with this state of mind, you will naturally learn how to prolong it and perhaps even more.

      Sweet half vivid dreams!
