      Schusteb's Workbook

      Reality Checks:
      - Pushing finger through palm
      - Plugging nose and trying to breathe
      - occasionally checking writing for changes

      Dream Signs:
-Not sure on these yet, after my first lucid dream last night, I noticed that a room I entered had been a part of my non-lucid dreams many many times in the past
      - Two of my fingers disappeared on each of my hands during the LD as well, that might be something
      -

      Sleep Schedule:
-Usually in bed ~10:00 p.m. and wake up between 6:30-7:00 a.m. depending on if I have meetings

      Short-Term Goals:
      - Have a lucid dream 3x per week
      - Establish more control over the dream
      - Fly

      Long-Term Goals:
      - Figure out who this mystery girl is in my dreams who often shows up, and leaves me with an "in love" feeling
      - Succed with WILD
      - Achieve total control of dream state

      Lucid/Dream Recall History:
      - Since I started keeping a dream journal, I've actually been pretty good with recall. I've managed to remember between 1-2 dreams per night, and have even woken up in the middle of the night to record 2 dreams

      Current Technique:
-Currently using DILD, however I have begun noticing signs of WILD when I am going to sleep repeating my affirmations. My vision will get a little trippy behind closed eyes and I have almost been able to make the weird hallucinations turn into solid images. Not yet though. For now my focus will still be on DILD until I get a better hang of it.

      Lesson II

I think I will be sticking with DILD for now, until I gain more control over my dreams and am able to have them more consistently. As I progress, I will try to incorporate WILD, especially on days where I am able to get more sleep.

As far as experiences are concerned, I had my first lucid dream last night after having practiced techniques for only about 3 days, which excited me.

Here is that dream, copied from my DJ. Normal dreaming is default color, lucid is blue, and comments are reserved for green.

      Three Fingered Hands (LD)

I was in a large classroom after hours with a few of my co-workers, specifically Jason, Rebecca, and another female who I can't remember. I was goofing off with Jason, I believe making paper airplanes. I remember looking down at my hands, and seeing my ring and middle finger disappear, leaving behind nothing but stubs when I would focus on them. I looked at them for awhile, not realizing I was in a dream, until it finally dawned on me. “Holy S***, I’m dreaming,” was the first thing I said as I felt the dreamworld immediately begin to fade. It started to blur at the edges, almost like a water color painting that had too much water. More like washed out. I remembered reading that rubbing your hands together was one of the best ways to get the dream stabilized, so I rubbed my three-fingered hands together, and felt this smooth, cool, electric like feeling under my skin.

The room became crisp again, and I ran up to Jason and said “Dude! You’ll never believe it, I’m actually dreaming right now and I can control it!” Surprisingly, for my first conversation with a DC, his response was pretty true to his character. “No s***,” he said, “that’s awesome.” I tried to get Rebecca’s conversation, but she was wrapped up in her conversation with the other girl and kept telling me off.
could it be that I don’t remember this other girl since I didn’t interact with her at all before or after lucidity? I remember that the other two characters at this point were well known to me from the beginning, but their identities were crisper once I achieved lucidity. I picked up one of the paper airplanes and threw it, not making it very far. Jason came up to me and said, “Have you tried looking in the mirror yet?” and I thought, you know what, no I haven’t. Thanks Jason.

Looking around the room, I couldn’t find any mirrors, as two walls were covered in windows showing dark night sky outside, and another wall was covered in an oversized green chalkboard, still dirty with white chalk dust. So I walked out of the classroom, and entered a dim hallway. I saw a mirror at the far end, but ignored it as it was dark there. Instead, I entered a doorway that led into a large bathroom. Inside were two other gentleman, but I can’t remember who they were. The back of the bathroom almost seemed to turn into a large maze of a locker room, with many showers and lockers just out of sight.
In retrospect, this room is something I have dreamed about before, except it has always been empty. I know it is like a maze, because even though I didn’t explore it this time, in the past I have in a non-lucid dream. I remember that there are doors further back that lead to more showers/lockers, and more doors, etc. I walked up to the mirror and looked at myself, not finding anything peculiar about my appearance is this normal? The dream started to fade yet again, and I tried to focus myself on something. Once it stabilized, I tried to let the other gentlemen in the room know what was going on, but the dream began to fade yet again, and this time I could not control it.

No new lucid dreams last night, just a few non-lucids that I can recall. They are posted in my DJ if people are interested in taking a look.

I do have a question that I posed at the end of my entry though, and I figure here would be a good place to post it as well.

"I do have a question for you all, do you think that the clearer moments of non-lucid dreams are from when we are more aware, and present the greatest opportunity for lucidity? Or are they only the moments that we recall when we wake up? If they are the former, that would explain why working on your recall helps to achieve lucidity, as you are working on awareness throughout the dream."

Hey schusteb! Welcome to Intro class!

Is that your first ld ever you posted above? Congrats!!!

Awesome job stabilizing in your first ld and making it so long. Very impressed by the cues given by Jason too!

While I'm not quite sure about the exact meaning you are putting behind the word clearer, but I can definitely say that I think that there are natural moments during dreams where our awareness is higher which indeed presents more opportunities to get lds. This is quote from a recent conversation with CL on this topic.

The next step, once you know such moments of higher awareness (which I relate to neurotransmitter levels) is to be confident they will come and expect to catch them much like dream signs. Some can be related to dream signs actually. I will post and elaborate a bit more about it soon. If you practice those two steps consistenly and with mindfulness then you will be able to have more ld moments.
