      Redrooster's workbook

      Hi everyone.
IM Redrooster. Ive been having lucid dreams for about 15 years but I've never been good at inducing them. 4 months ago I decided to realy put effort into trying to induce LDs . Most of what I've learned has been from the internet but I think I need more guidance than that, which is why Im here. Im excited to learn from experienced Lucid Dreamer.

      Reality checks:
      -Counting fingers
      -nose plug
      -fingers though palm
      - trying to remember what I did five minutes ago

      Dream signs:
      blue sky
      fields...grass, farm land ect.

      Short term goals:
Learn to fly. I can fly but its always hard
talk to DCs. learn from them about the dream world
learn techniques to induce LDs that work for me
      Improve my dream recall

      Long term goals:
      -Talk to my subconscious
      -hone my induction techniques
      -Have amazing LD adventures
-have a dream or spirit guide

      Lucid/dream recall History
In the past my recall has been spotty. Since using MILD, I recall at least one dream per night and sometimes more. In the last 5 months Ive had 6 lucid dreams with 2 in the last 5 nights.

      Current techniques:
MILD.. This one has been the most useful. My dream recall has improved so much with this and my insomnia is gone and so are my sleeping pills.
FILD.. I like the idea of this one but by its self doesn't work for me. I've had 3 lucids using a combo of repeating my montra and moving my fingers

I go to bed at 10 and get up at 4:50am during the week. On weekends I got to bed at 11pm and get up at 7 or 8 am.

I'm going to choose MILD as my technique and combine it with WBTB on the weekends. I will choose FILD as a secondary technique to try later. I have had some luck using MILD to improve my dream recall and to induce some LDs. I had an very vivid LD Thursday using MILD + WBTB but could use some advice to make it work better. I've tried FILD before and have had no luck but I think with practice it could work for me.

I tried to do MILD + WBTB a couple of times this weekend. I admit that I didn't do it properly though. I woke up after about 5 hours to go to the bathroom. But instead of staying up and focusing on my intentions, I just went to bed and tried to stay awake and repeated my Montras..."I will remember my dreams" and "I am dreaming". I didn't try to imagine a scene and I only reviewed my intentions once.

I tried daydream awareness last night as I was going to bed. I focused on a scene with a cliff high on a foothill overlooking a forest. I tried to engage my senses by trying to feel the wind of my face and smell the pine in the air. I also imagined myself flying over the forest and reminding get myself to repeat "I am dreaming ".

But despite that I hardly slept. I tossed and turned all night. I feel like I may have gotten 2 hours of sleep and no dreams. Better luck tonight.

My dream recall has gone down to only short dreams and fragments. So I am going to go back to my mantra "I will remember my dreams" for a week or so, along with daydream awareness . I'm going to try to be more aware of my senses during the day too. I focused on just my hearing yesterday and I probably do the same today. It was amazing how much I was missing during normal everyday life.

Did you make any changes in your sleep or other habits? That could be affecting recall. Alternatively, it might be a short term fluctuation which is quite normal.

Well I haven't been sleeping as well the last week. So that makes sense. It started after I had a LD on Thursday. I obsess over it and play it over and over in my mind that I want to walk away from trying to lucid dream for a few days, even though that of course is not what I really want.

Also it seems that when I stop using my Monta "I will remember my dreams " for too long I do start to forget. So starting again should help

I can't remember any dreams last night. I woke around 3 am to go to the bathroom. While I was up took a few extra minutes to quickly think about my intensions ,then went back to bed. I was only up for maybe 3 or 4 minutes. The rest of the night i was very restless, neither awake or asleep. I tried several times to focus on my mantra but after only a few seconds I'd stop. I also tried to imagine a dream scene wich also failed because I couldn't keep focus.

I'll maybe try to just sleep tonight and try a real WBTB tomorrow night.

I remembered another dream from last night. I walked into my greenhouse, Wich is not heated and needs some fixing up after our last wind storm. As I waked in I thought "it's really warm in hear for a cloudy day". So I went back outside to feel the temp. It was 10 degrees colder out side, so I went back in side the greenhouse again. Again it was warmer, and the greenhouse was good condition. I didn't become lucid but it feels like an acomplishment because for the last few days I've been focusing on my awareness of my senses. Especially my hearing and focus on what my body feels. In this dream I felt warmth. I don't no normaly feel temperature in dreams, so I'll take this as a good sign.

Yes, that's definitely a good sign. I agree temperature experiences in dreams are not so frequent in general and also in my case these come hand in hand with higher awareness whether a lucid or on the verge of lucidity .

I planned to try a WBTB +MILD Saturday night. I set my alarm for 5 hours of sleep, wrote out my intensions the night before to look over when I got up. But after only 3 house of sleep I woke up and couldn't fall asleep for a very long time. So eventually I gave up and turned off my alarm. And even so I still couldn't sleep.

Again last night I I had a very hard time sleeping. Only this time I had a hard time falling asleep at bed time. I probably only got 2 hours. I hope I sleep tonight and get that REM rebound I read about

I'll try a WBTB next weekend. But keep MILDing and practice awareness during the week.

Thursday night I set up to do a WBTB +MILD just like last weekend. But I woke 2 hours before I needed to and had trouble falling asleep again. I did fall asleep finaly, and had a lucid dream. I will post the whole dream a bit later in my dream journal but the short version is... I became lucid and yelled at the dream for guns. About 30 feet in front of me like a coloring book drawing of guns apeared and came towards me. As they got closers they colored in and I grabbed one. Next I yelled to the dream for wings as I had planned because I seem to have trouble flying and I figured wings would help. I felt the wings but I didn't see them and I did fly. I stated shooting at these weird troll like people. For no reason in the middle of shooting I suddenly woke up. It was about 4 am close to the time I had planned my WBTB, so I got up for 20 minutes and wrote down my LD. I want back to bed hoping for another LD. Instead I had more trouble falling to sleep and no dreams I remember. But the one was was really cool. The dream was sorta hazy though. I should have done RCS and rubbed my hands. I think tat would have made me more lucid. Next time.,

Went to bed last night with no intention of WBTB but only my montra. I slept wonderful! I did woke up briefly for about 15 minutes to use the bathroom and to think over what I wanted to do if I became lucid. I didn't end up having a LD but I had some very clear vivid dreams. Maybe because they were so real I didnt question whether I was dreaming. I've had a few of those lately. Any advice on how to better realize your dreaming when it seems so real. Those are the dreams I'd love to be lucid in.

      Congrats on the ld!

About getting lucid in a super realistic dream - get into the habit of pausing, this will help you better evaluate the situation. Also, do various types of RCs which will give you a clue as to whether it could be a dream. Finally, look for specific dream signs which can be present.

I've been having a of problems falling asleep lately.i didn't sleep at all Monday night and slept only a few hours last night because I took something. My goal this week was to bring back my dream recall but it's hard to do that when I'm not sleeping . Hopefully I can find a way to get back on track. If I do get lucky and have Ld, I plan to ask the dream why I'm having trouble falling asleep and how to resolve it. My second goal for my next lucid is to ask a DC. ..what they represent and what can they teach me. I am still doing rcs during the day and trying to take note of my senses. I also started to daydream before sleep and incubate a dream scene and use the image of a lemon tree to tip me off that I'm dreaming.

Have you been able to relate your insomnia to anything like stressful day thoughts or too much stimulating drinks or staying up late and being exposed to a lot of bright lights from devices or lamps? All these things can have a negative impact on sleep.

I can't say any of those things kept me from sleeping. It's usually like my body isn't shutting off. No stress, no lingering thoughts, just not sleep. But I'm happy to say I feel back on track. I've been sleeping again and my dreams are back too. Hopefully a LD is close

I have looked for any recurring dream signs but so far I haven't found one. So lately I've been trying to create one. I have been using the montra..I'm looking at a lemon tree and lemons make me lucid. To me the montra sounds a little dumb but since lemons don't grow here, seeing a lemon tree would seem out of place and hopefully make me aware that I'm dreaming. I've been trying to picture a scene with a lemon tree in it or just picture one as I fall sleep with repeating the montra. So far it hasn't worked. Does anyone have any advice ?

Try putting your dream signs into categories and see if anything stands out. For example, people, places, events. Who are the main characters in your dreams? Are they classmates, family, co-workers, unknown people, movie characters. Some of these will appear more often than others. Do the same analysis for places and events, also your moods if these stand out. Then follow with mantra relating to the most common ones.

My 9 year old son has been asking a lot of questions about lucid dreaming lately and last night he had his first lucid dream! He remembered to do the nose plug RC and tried to push his finger though his hand. Also he tried to fly but fell after about 6 ft he said. A great first start!

I've only had 1 lucid in about 2 months. I've been using MILD as my technique. It worked for a while but I feel like it's time to try something new. I've read good this about SSILD and I've been using it the last 3 nights. The first night I use the older version where you cycle though 4 time and do each step for 20 seconds. I didn't have a lucid but I could recall 4 non lucids. That's a lot for me. The next 2 nights I used the newer version doing 4 to 6 quick cycles and then 4 or more slower cycles. I still had more dreams than usual but the cycles take too long and then I had a hard time falling asleep. I realize now I shouldn't fight falling asleep during cycles. I may go back to the old version or shorten up the new one.

SSILD is a great technique and I definitely recommend giving it a try. Also, it would be very helpful if you could incorporate a wbtb in your routine.

Yesterday I think I had a near WILD using SSILD. I had some trouble sleeping after about 6 hours of sleep so I started doing the cycles. I'm not sure how many I actually did but it seemed like I only got though one and a half cycles before I got a very heavy feeling. Once I noticed it my visual of a blue ball and drum went black. Soon after my body began to vibrate I thought this must be a wild and not to freak out and to just go with it. I remember trying to move my awareness into the beginning of a dream . The vibrations felt like they lasted a very long time and I began to wonder if my physical body was moving. Right after that thought I had a false awakening. I thought my wife came into the bedroom and woke me up. I was upset that she ruined my WILD. then I actually woke up.
