      some beginner questions:)

      Hi
Im having some questions im having problems finding solutions to, i would be thankful for any help since im kind of new to lucid dreaming

Im trying to learn how to wild but I never manage to enter sleep paralysis. The problem is my breathing, after 10-20 minutes i feel a surge going through my body and it feels as if my head is moving away from my body, i guess this is a prelude to getting paralysed. As my body gets further away it becomes harder to breathe. I have tried to ignore this and let my body take over but then i feel as im suffocating and start to grasp for air, which ofcourse wakes me up! I have also tried breathing harder but this leads to me taking huge breathes which also wakes me up! Very annoying.

      my questions are:
      1. is this normal? do any of you have some tricks to get past it?
      2. what is supposed to happen with your breath when your in paralysis? am i sopposed to breathe consiously or does the body take over so im not aware im breathing?
      3. is it a complete waste of time to wild directly when goin to bed? i dont really have time to wake up early, its not as important to have long lucid dreams at the moment, i just want to learn how to for the future

      thanks for any help!

      Hi cribs, welcome to Dreamviews!

I'm guessing that those sensations you're feeling are the beginnings of SP. Sometimes people do feel like they can't breathe during SP, especially on their back, so if you're on your back, try changing positions. I wouldn't recommend WILDing when getting into bed, because you're not yet in a REM period, when dreams are made. If you do manage to enter SP (I've done this once or twice), which can take over an hour because you're not that relaxed, there's a good chance you won't even enter a dream and just drift asleep.

Most people just WILD with a WBTB, when their body's already relaxed because they've been asleep for a few hours, or during a nap if they're tired enough.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Are you focusing on your breathing and your body when you WILD? Try focusing on something else, so you can forget about your body in bed. If you focus on your body, you will become painfully aware of all the weird hallucinations and body distortions that occur as you enter sleep. Your breathing and heart rate change as you enter sleep. This feeling can be amplified by your confused mind as it begins to switch into fantasy mode. Don't worry about sleep paralysis. Just worry about entering the dream. Sleep Paralysis is not necessary to WILD, and many people never even experience it.

      Thanks for your quick answers

I will try to change position! so far i have been lying on my back, but i normaly sleep on on my side. maybe that will do it.

also do you have some tips on what to focus on? i focus on my breathing in order to relax (i practise meditation as well) and counts my breaths, perhaps there is a better technique for lucid dreaming?

      thanks again

Also WILD for a newbie is really hard. I cant even WILD, it takes time and most people recommend using DILD or MILD until you have your first 10 lucid dreams.

As im sure other people said if you are going to WILD then don't do it before bed unless its really late and your really tired but even then its not recommended. WBTB will be your best chances.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride
