It's impossible to stretch time out so long that you lose track of what's real and what's not. And besides, you can always do a reality check to make sure you're not dreaming. In Inception, they didn't use reality checks and lots of the "dream information" in the movie wasn't true for real life.

Once you realize you're dreaming, you can do anything! Dreams, from my experience (and that of others, I'm sure) run mainly on expectations. If you expect to suddenly feel someone touch your shoulder, or see someone turn around the corner, they probably will. "Know" that you'll be able to fly, and you will. Expect a table to be behind you when you turn around, or expect the door you're about to open to lead to a rainforest. Anything's possible.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Puffin nailed it. In my experience, when I expect... Uhm for example, Megan fox to be in my room in my dream, and truly believe it, then she will be there.

I would add in not to worry too much about your expectations, though. If you spend your lucid time saying "I believe it will happen. I DO. I really do. I know it now!" and so on to sort of self-hypnotize into believing something...it probably won't happen. Never worked for me, anyway

By 'expect it to happen' I (and I suspect everyone else here) mean just think it to happen the same way you think to move a finger. It's just a simple, commanding thought, not some elaborate trick on your mind. And really, in a dream, there's no difference between moving your finger and moving an object across the room for you. It all happens simply because you intend it to. Get that into your head and you will go far with dream control

...As I've said in a lot of other posts before, it's like watching a movie for the fifth time over again: you "know" what's going to happen.

Well, now, you can never be too sure! We may have to just discover the method to do it... or we just haven't payed attention to it yet...
