Why cant we WILD when going to bed?

I know for a fact I have done this and ever since then have tried to but I'm never successful.

While attempting a WILD during a nap this after noon I kept getting the hypnogogic hallucination that my left eye kept opening and would immediately shut when i realized it. I wasn't sure if it was real at first but it kept getting stronger and stronger until it was a flash of a scene similar to my apartment. I found this very annoying as it was just in my left eye..

You can, you just need some practice staying aware and not accidentally falling asleep, I know that is my problem. Impatient is my second problem with this method, but still, this is my favorite method.

One reason is that we are not in REM when going to bed.

Unless you're really tired or can relax extremely well, you probably won't experience HI. You also don't enter REM right when you fall asleep, so it's difficult to even get into a dream if you manage to enter sleep paralysis.

Some people can do it right when going to bed, but others can't. It's just a matter of preference.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

For some reason I have an easier time getting HI when I'm just about to go to bed at night. I barely get any when I've tried in the middle of the night. I guess that's just me, though.

Most people don't drop right into a dream when they first go to sleep at night. If you have a crazy sleeping schedule, or have missed sleep recently, you might. To WILD when you first go to sleep at night, you would have to remain aware, but asleep, and wait until a dream started. That might take 90 minutes! Much easier to only wait 5-10 minutes, later in the night with some good timing.

Can anyone explain to me why you can wild during naps, but not when you're about to fall asleep? I don't understand why this would be true?

You can WILD when going to bed at first. It just takes more time (to enter SP and a dream, can take up to 1 hour maybe) and practice than a WILD after some hours of sleep. You can WILD at naps because you enter right to the REM stage, where most dreams occurs.

The idea is that when returning to bed within about 9 hours after waking up, you have "leftover REM" and will fall straight back into REM sleep. At least that's how I've heard it eplained.

I've been to the point where I could hear HI but I always wake up. This usually when I go straight to bed.

I WILD right when I go to bed and it only takes 2-5 minutes for me to enter SP.
