      Some advice please?

I discovered the art of lucid dreaming two days ago while doing some research online. It sounds exhilarating, and it's something I'd like to experience. I myself generally have a lot of trouble falling asleep, but once asleep I sleep very soundly, and I can easily fall back asleep after waking up in the middle of the night. In addition, my dream recall is excellent, though my dreams are rarely vivid and often appear blurry. I'm hoping someone can help me attain my first lucid dream with some personalized advice based on my sleeping patterns. Cheers,
      Telemachus

If you wake up in the middle of the night I would suggest WBTB, DILD and MILD. Do you know anything about LD or are you a total noob? I would be be happy to help with anything you need, I am far form an expert but also far from new at this. To start I think keeping a dream journal is top priority. How many dreams do you remember a night?

I'd try a Dild. Mabey at least one RC a day but Dream Journal is Defenitly a top priority.

Your dreams are blurry because it's something that doesn't interest you, if you start performing reality checks and keep a dream journal dreams will become more and more vivid and occur more often. There are great techniques in the tutorial sections.

Big thanks to all who replied.
I'm already keeping a Dream Journal, and I recall around two dreams a night clearly, and up to three which are just static images in my mind or very blurry. I try to perform reality checks throughout the day when I see something abnormal, as well as before I go to sleep and as I wake up.

      First off, welcome to Dreamviews.

Ok, here is my advice and make sure you give this some time and do not lose hope.

      1. Start a journal as others suggested.
      2. Do reality checks ( I prefer the hand reality check)
      3. Increase awareness (Be more aware of your daily tasks, try to stay in the
"now", dont think about other things, stay focused on the task at hand, be more aware of your hand movements, leg movements when you are walking, that is how you increase your awareness)
      4. Give it some time.

      Good luck.

That's a great start, I've been practicing lucid dreaming for about two-three months now and have only had five lucid dreams, as I said earlier, never give up.

Have you ever tried meditation? If you can get decent at meditating you can have WBTB WILDs fairly consistently. It's where I've had the most success, I've only had 2 DILDs and both of those immediately followed WILDs. I think it took me about 4 months to have my first LD and now a few months later I'm finally starting to gain more control and longer duration. RCs never seem to stick for me when I'm dreaming so I had to try something else. GL keep trying!

I have to agree, awareness helps me more than RC. I just try to always pay attention to my surroundings. Not only does it help to become lucid but I get really surprised at all the details I might otherwise miss in day to day life.

Thanks. I've done meditation off and on in my waking life through the years, so it shouldn't be too hard for me. I'm going to try a WBTB tonight (weekend for me) so I'll record the results. I'm hoping that even if I fail the WILD I'll still have a DILD

Usually when I fail a WILD, I either have a relatively good DILD or a dream about sleep paralysis.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

That is the same with me. I usually fail at a WILD but almost always will dream I am trying to WILD later, and than I think it works but realize it was a dream the whole time and I have already failed at my WILD.

WBTB didn't work. I think I woke myself up too much and couldn't fall back asleep
I'm guessing the problem is that I normally wake up at 6:00, and I set my WBTB alarm for the same time, fooling my body into thinking it was time to wake up permanently. Won't be making that mistake again.

Well, I've been temporarly out of the LDing business for a while but I came back. But I'm oddly SUCKING at remmebering, because usually I'm not that bad.

I'm trying to get a totem animal, and try to get a 'dream tool' that you can sacridize for good dreams.
