      Ears ringing

Hi, I just woke up from my first lucid dream about half an hour ago and so jumped on the internet to see what it's all about (very excited!). Before falling into my lucid dream my ears started ringing overwhelmingly, for some reason I tried to embrace this and that's what led me to the lucid dream. Is this a normal reaction? Are there any other, more ear-friendly techniques that I could easily replace this with?

      Thanks

Riverboy, FIRST OF ALL, WELCOME to DV!

Second Of All, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FIRST LUCID!!

Third of all, EARS ringing, strong wind thunder, and noises in general, are very very very common with Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming and it scares many newcomers out of further attempts... To get through it, you ignore it, and wait for a dream to form, or a false awakening scenario... So did you already know about dreamviews before you had this experience or did you find us after you had it?

It's totally normal I usually hear scratchy noises or string music. Lots of people hear whispers however, but don't let it scare you off!

Ah thanks guys I wasn't scared, for some reason I just embraced it and it worked out as a LD! Atkins, I haven't been on DV before but I was so excited that I jumped on the internet to find out more. There were some sites that looked a bit too much like money-makers to me, but then I found this place and the community feel is great. Before this the only advice I've ever really heard about lucid dreaming was on a Stuff You Should Know podcast, I started trying to remember my dreams a month ago and now I'm here

Does the novelty ever wear off? Because I'm so excited about all of this!

Congratulations, I will rarely get ringing in my ears but more often I will hear whispers or people calling me which can be quite alarming.

Ah this is all quite reassuring. I did almost encounter a scary bit at the start of the actual LD, but I had some vague recollection of standing up to whatever it is so told it **** off! That felt quite empowering.

I'll try not to ramble but I'm so excited that this all is actually real, it's going to be life changing and I can't wait!

Definetly not! I think it will always be fantastic

And I agree that it's life-changing. That's exactly what I thought! But I introduced it to a friend and they didn't think it was that big a deal. I got very confused haha...

But yeah consistency is the key. I admit that recently I've not been very consistant (exams etc) and I haven't had a lucid in ages. But it's the weekend, I'm getting back into it again...

I hope you get another one soon

It always surprises me how loud these auditory hallucinations can be. Mine normally are either voices, or loud rushing sounds like wind on the freeway.

I think the reason I was concerned was because I knew nothing about lucids and accidentally entered it. Also I heard an alarm like noise when I woke this morning which I'm 90% sure wasn't real. I wasn't aware of any SP though, any thoughts??

P.S. Thanks for the great response guys, you make me feel very welcome!

You might have been about to DEILD. Did you move at all? A technique to induce lucids is actually learning to notice when you wake between REM periods, and learn to stay still and DEILD (or WILD. There was a discussion about which one it is). Once mastered it could probably get you a few lucids per night. But I recommend trying each method for a few weeks at a time and seeing what works for you. It sounds like you've got a head-start on WILDing, which is awesome

And I think the community's great Some of the discussions can get pretty heated, but most debates do. I usually just stay out of them But whatever floats your boat y'know.
