      Newbie in need :)

      Hello there.

I have read a lot on lds, and i have achieved lucidity few times. My main problem that i am facing is that after attaining lucidity IMMEDIATELY i force myself into waking up. The main reason for this is fear. I have had nightmares since i can remember and even though lds are a successful method of reducing nightmares the thought of experiencing a terrifying dream in full awareness to me seems scarier than just having an unconscious dream. When i only dream of scary stuff it is like it has happened to someone else, but with lucidity is like my worst nightmares transcended the dream world and became real. Do you have some advices on how to eradicate this instinct that i have of waking just so i can protect myself from horrifying visions and finally fully enjoy a meadow of calmness and peace?

p.s. I haven't experienced a scary lucid dream, i have looked in mirrors and seen myself (even though i expected something scary) and never have i had monsters or other stuff appear, so the fear is purely "preventive"; the "what if" scares me . I use reality checks to attain lucidity, like flipping a switch or reading some text and looking away.

      Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to DV! You gotta get over the fact that something MIGHT happen, cuz things you expect to happen in dreams, happen. You have all power in your lucids, and you're only limited to what you believe. Don't worry, lucids don't turn ugly unless you're very scared they might. So try to lose the fear of nightmares. I was troubled by nightmares when I was younger, but when I started wanting to have them for the thrills (they're extremely awesome experiences are they not?), they disappeared.

Nightmares usually arise when there's something troubling us in life. Try to find more balance if you think that's the problem. Also, visualizing you're a perfect being. Full of light and energy and nothing can touch you might help to boost your confidence. I can imagine having a bubble of light surrounding me in my lucids would be a great way of keeping stuff out.

I hope you succeed in your quest! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck and keep on dreaming!

The best advice I can give, is to try not to worry about anything scary. You thought you were going to see something scary in the mirror, but you truly didn't want to...correct? Thus, nothing scary appeared. For the most part, you can feel a little fear, but if you truly don't want scary things to happen...they won't. If a monster does happen to come along, the best way to overcome the fear, is to face it. You are all powerful in your dreams...just straight up kick the monsters ass! If anything scary comes, take a deep breathe, let out a roar and charge into battle. That is what I do when I get a little scared. Just let out a battle cry and go whip it ass. Good luck to you!

Thank you guys, i already feel more at ease i guess all i needed was a little encouragement from more experienced people. Now i can really and truly start trying to have lucid dreams.
