      Hi there!

Hey everyone. i'm from Holland and I'm new to lucid dreaming, read a lot about it but haven't had one yet.

I'm practicing a lot and twice I asked myself in a dream if I was dreaming and convinced myself that I wasn't.. Felt pretty stupid when I woke up! So now I'm doing a lot of reality checks every day. Can't wait and can't really imagine what it'll be like to have a lucid dream.

Awesome to find a forum like this with people who are also into this!

      Welcome to DreamViews
those dreams are indeed, very frustrating, I've had many like that.
When you do reality checks in waking life, make sure you completely question why you are where you are, you have to totally assure yourself you are awake/dreaming. It should help
if you have any questions, feel free to ask

Thanks everyone for all the tips and motivation. Before my reality checks were like 'am I dreaming?' and then immediately I thought no I'm not. Now I do real checks like reading text twice, or looking at the time or asking myself what I did an hour before. I remember at least one dream every night, but also dreams of me doing nothing, like sitting on a couch or something, weird?

before your reality checks, say "I AM dreaming" then the reality check will confirm/disprove it. And yeah, try 2 RCs, like the nose plug, and asking what you did an hour before, that's sorta like what I do.

Ok I'll try saying that first. I'm not familiar with the nose plug method though, how does that work?

      Hi, maryachy!
      Welcome to the forum!
First of all, do your reality checks everytime you remember. Do an RC whenever you feel weird, something seems weird, you are in a new place/strange place, whenever you find yourself somewhere try to remember how did you got there and do an RC to see if it is reality.
Try better plugging your nose as an RC. Plug your nose and try to breath. If you can breath you are dreaming.
It never fails as if when you are in a dream you are paralyzed in the real life and you will not feel pressure, cos you don't plug your nose in reality.
Even if you are being lucid in a dream it isn't enough. DON'T try to control everything yourself! As you are a novice, you will destabilize your dream and it would fade. In other words: Don't actively control your dreams.
Try to control it passively. How? Don't just imagine you are doing something. Shout out loud what you want. The subconscious will give you what you want everytime.
Like you are in a nightmare that someone chases you and you realize it's a dream. Don't just go ahead and make it disappear with the power of your mind. Just tell that someone that chases you to go away and so he will. (Be 100% sure he will listen to you. If you have a doubt, he will not listen to you. This is how dream mechanism works.)
If you feel like your dream is about to fade shout "STABILIZE!" and try to spin around fast (After spinning you may find yourself in another place and lose lucidity. Remind yourself while spinning that you are dreaming!) or to look at your surroundings very carefully. It would make your dreams more vivid.
About dream vividness: Your dreams are already vivid...like everyone's. You just gotta know how to observe them. Try to look in the real life at objects in more detail. Try to define their shapes, colors, textures. Eventually you will do that in dreams too and they would look much more vivid.
You can also try eating foods or suppliments. For Vitamin B6, you should get some suppliments that will provide you with about 100mg of B6 (much less than 250mg, and not dangerous!). You’re going to have a hard time eating enough oranges to get that much. Take it about an hour or two before bed. For tryptophan, you should eat some cheddar cheese a few hours before bed, around when you’re about to take the B6.
If you’re not willing to just go out and buy suppliments, then i have advice for you. Eat a banana or two, and then sprinkle a good amount of cheddar cheese on something. Not on the banana, unless that’s your thing, it’s not really mine. Do this about an hour before bed. The next day, i’ll be surprised if I don’t see you running to your car still pulling your shirt over your head in such a hurry to get to the store.
That’ll provide you with some intense dreams! Good luck, and enjoy. Remember, work on your dream recall so you can remember these vivid dreams.
