      Sort of new

Hello. I guess I should have posted here, first, but I've never been good at smooth introductions so I just sort of randomly began posting in the Lounge. . .

Anyway, uh, I'm Squishdiboo. I've been a registered member here for a few years but never really posted or read any of the threads until a few hours ago. So, essentially, new.

As far as dreaming goes: I've had about 5 lucid experiences I can remember, but none of them were particularly successful--each has resulted in sleep paralysis and waking immediately upon realization that I was dreaming. Very frustrating, to say the least! I have rather excellent dream recall and can remember at least one dream per night. I also manage to start dreaming rather quickly after falling asleep, often falling immediately into dreaming.

Lately my dreams have been rather upsetting: all about being in arguments with people (former friends in the real world, current friends within the reality of the dream) where I am crying and feeling upset because there's nothing I can do to diffuse the situation or explain myself. Another common theme will be that I am being attacked by some sort of crazed animal, and have no choice but to strangle it or break its neck to stop it. There's also the dreams where I know something terrible is happening and I try to avoid it or warn people but nothing I do works. I guess I'm just a helpless-feeling, frightened, frustrated person with a victim complex. It would be nice to exercise some control over my dreams so that I might enjoy them again.

I find dreams fascinating, but I have other interests, as well. I like to read all sorts of books, but am particularly fond of young-adult fiction. I like to learn about almost anything, but I am especially interested in animals, psychology, astronomy and mythology. I enjoy watching movies, documentaries, true-crime shows, sitcoms and cartoons. I also enjoy the occasional video game, mostly "western" RPGs like Neverwinter Nights, Fable and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Anyway, now that you know all these things about me, I'm sure we'll all be fast friends! Maybe? It would be cool to meet and get to know some new people. Sorry for the long, odd post! I don't really know what I'm doing!

Hi! Welcome to DV - er, welcome to posting I guess!! Glad you decided to come out of lurking mode.

I did see a few posts by you yesterday - some caught my interest but I was pretty involved in some long and winding convos that took up most of my attention.

Anyway, sounds like you need to do what I'm doing - namely live your life vicariously through DV!

This place can be loads of fun and you can make lots of friends - People are really friendly here - don't be afraid to write on somebody's wall if you like the stuff they say on the board and send friend requests. Jump in on conversations and pretty soon you'll find people you can get on well with.

Anyway, I'm supposed to be sleeping now, but just popped in to see what's goin' on. Off to bed now though for realz.

Hi, welcome to the DV forum! ...Sort of.

Occasionally everyone goes through a huge mess of disturbing dreams, whether it be from an external source (family arguments, stress from work or school, etc.) or not. If you have a problem with something in waking life, it's best to resolve it. If not, the dreams shouldn't last that much longer if there's no cause for them to do so. If you want to realize that you're dreaming in the midst of these nightmares, the first thing to do would be to start practicing waking lucidity; in other words, be more aware of what's around you and don't go through the day in a haze. Memorize a few different RCs as well; you'll need them to confirm if you're dreaming or not. The nose-plug tends to work the best.

If you have any questions about lucid dreaming or the forum, feel free to send me a PM.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      Welcome to DV!

Your nightmares are most likely related to waking-life stuff. It could be as simple as stress from school or family life. A lot of times nightmares will be extreme even when they are related to problems that don't seem like a big deal. A lot of people use dream control to fight or get rid of nightmares. I personally think it's more helpful to use your lucidity to try to understand why the nightmare is there. So once you're able to incapacitate your foes, ask them why they are giving you nightmares or what they represent. You might be surprised at the answers you get. Good luck!
