Lucid dreamer for 20+ years, never knew it was a skill I should hone.

      Hello all,

I'm brand spankin' new to the community of lucid dreamers. I've been LDing since I was a kid, but

      1) I never knew it had a name,
      2) I never realized that it was very valuable -- until recently, and
      3) I never thought to actually hone it as any skill.

Without boring you with too many details of my rabbit hole... after watching Inception, my curiosity eventually led me to this forum.

I taught myself how to wake up from nightmares around 1988, but outside of that, I've never practiced any real dream control. I also never thought to take advantage of lucid dreaming until recently.

I'm glad I found this forum, and I have a ton of respect for all of you who share your lucid dream experiences for the benefit of others like myself.

I look forward to making new friends here, learning a boatload, and of course I'm excited about the dreams to come.

      Cheers.

Hey dreamst8, it is great you found this forum! I am sure there are plenty of people who are naturals at lucid dreaming, who like you:

      1) Never knew it had a name,
      2) Never realized that it was very valuable -- until recently, and
      3) Never thought to actually hone it as any skill.

So you are very luck! I hope you can share your progress with dream control (and other things) here on Dreamviews. If you have any questions about lucid dreaming or this website, just send me a PM!

Definitely! It will be my first time actually writing down my dreams, so I'll do my best to be coherent lol. I'll post my goals too. I have somewhat of a grandiose main goal -- to totally master my dream world, and use what I learn in my LDs to manifest a similar kind of mental control over much of my waking life. I know there are plenty of other members here with that same goal. My more immediate goals are to achieve flying, telekinesis, and shape-shifting (in my LDs, of course. hahaha).

I'm going to sign off and head to bed now. If I have a LD tonight, I'll post it. I don't have them every night, but I have them quite often. Now that I have a different perspective of what they are... infinite possibilities. I read in another thread that too much excitement can muck up your LDs, so I'm trying to calm myself down. Admittedly, it's difficult to lower my excitement right now. But I'm in no rush. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and take it as it comes.

      Thanks again and good night!

      Welcome to Dreamviews,
I was also so glad when I discovered this site, I felt that the time spent (dreamless) sleeping was a waste of time and I wanted to improve that experience.
I'm glad you are keeping a dream journal, and wheat techniques are you using?

Thanks to ALL for the warm reception! It's very encouraging .

Lawilahd - lol i hope so. I'm envious of you, though, because you're aware of LD now and have many years ahead of you to make "the impossible possible" That's awesome.

Arch - I agree with you 100%. Now that I've begun this journey, though, I realize that I'm rusty. My recall sucks right now, and if I'm distracted for even a second after waking before writing my dream down -- POOF -- it's gone. That happened to me 3 times this morning! No LDs, but had about 4 dreams and 1 "kinda" dream (please forgive me as I learn the lingo). What is it called when you have a quick dream that's more like a hallucination because you're not totally asleep -- somewhere in between? Anyway, I wrote down the 1 "regular" dream and the "hallucination" in my journal, but I lost the other 3 dreams because each time, I was woken up by some craziness (my household just isn't still. AAArrrgh! And on cue... my ADT just went off AGAIN -- which is what woke me up 2 out of those 3 times.)

Oh! Dude, judging from your choice of artwork, you might dig this. Have you seen the Daffy Duck Wizard segment from the new Looney Tunes show? If you haven't, or if you're not familiar with the new LT yet, that may sound silly, but check it out. It's... awesome. I would post the YouTube link, but I don't want to get flagged for spam (would that even happen?). Anyway, if you get a chance, go to youtube and type in daffy duck wizard and it'll come up. A few ppl have posted it, and a couple of them are great quality. Listen to the lyrics especially!

Pandabear - Mal's totem. I love your banner. Thanks for the openness. I'm sure we'll be great friends. And I definitely will post my LDs here. I recalled 2 dreams from last night but they weren't LDs. Now that I'm actually TRYING to have LDs, I don't think they're going to come as often maybe. My nightmares are ALWAYS lucid. I think it's my automatic response because i taught myself how to wake up out of them 20 yrs ago. Since then, I can count the number of nightmares I've had on ONE hand (and still have fingers left over -- no exaggeration). But each nightmare has been lucid. It's some sort of defense mechanism I think. Anyway, I'd like to have at least 1 or 2 LDs a night.

weakamon - Hi! Thanks, weakamon. It's funny you would mention Puffin's beginner's guide. That's the very first post I read in this forum. Google led me to it. I've already PMed Puffin and thanked her for it. She's very cool and so generous with her insight.

I just looked back at the location of everyone on this post. Friggin' sweet. Diversity - the Philippines, Denmark, The UK, Canada, Antarctica, the US... it's a beautiful thing. It's a reflection of my offline life, too. I've always had a diverse group of friends. Only makes sense that my new friends HERE would reflect that too . Different strokes paint the world!

      Sweet dreams, everybody!

Hey thanks, marwanin! 20 years of lucid dreams, but no dream control. Weirdly, I never thought to control them. When I've become lucid, I've just gone with the flow of the dream. If it was a nightmare (of which I've only had a handful since I learned how to do this), once I became lucid, I would just zap myself awake to get away from the scary situation. That was in like '88. Since then, no nightmares -- until a couple of years ago, I had one, but became lucid very quickly. This time, since I knew that I could wake myself up if I wanted, I wasn't scared. Soon after, the dream changed and became a beautiful one (maybe I passively changed it, idk). About a year ago, the same thing happened. At this point, I think I can expect that to be the case from here on out, if i ever have another nightmare.

So even though I've had LDs since I was a kid, I consider myself to be a total noob. I have no practice of dream control (which I'm very excited to change very soon )

Ha! I'm addicted to this forum already.

      Thanks for the welcome, Dumax!

Arch - I just realized I never answered your question about what techniques I'm using. Embarrassingly, I have no techniques. I'm just now learning what lucid dreaming is. Until this forum, I didn't realize it was something you could actually "make happen". I always thought it was just something that happened or it didn't. And again, I didn't even know it had a name.

So, unfortunately, I have no techniques yet. Crazyinsane's CANWILD technique looks interesting. I just read his tute last night. I might give that a try. Right now, I'm focusing on my recall because it's terrible.

I have to get some work done. I'll see you all later

Welcome. It's great that you finally found the place where you belong, with us, the oneironauts I personally think the community is great because there are always people helping newcomers and everyone is quite open to share their experiences. Besides, since each one of us has its own particular way of becoming lucid, it's great to try all these new techniques and adapt them to the way we sleep and dream. I've also only started very recently the journey of constant dedication and with all the support and from hearing what other people have to say, can't turn off the subject of LD not even for a single day

      Good luck in your goals

Thanks Angie746! I can tell I'm in good company. So many ppl here are already offering great advice and being very welcoming. It's pretty cool. Nice to meet another natural lucid dreamer, too!

Thanks for the well wishes, zoth00! I know what you mean about not being able to turn off the subject. This morning, I asked while I was IN a dream, "If I have to write a review of a play that I haven't seen, and I have a LD about the play, could my mind fill in the blanks based on what I know about the play -- enough for me to write a good review?" lol. Odd question (especially since I'm not in the business of reviewing plays), but I know exactly why I asked it. Fragments of my waking life created that. Unfortunately, it wasn't a LD, but I thought it was pretty funny that I would ask a question in my dream about LD so soon.

I can't stop thinking about LD now. It's just so amazing to think of how much more LIVING I'm going to get to do now.
