      rc's in real life?

      lemme say something.
i like puffins SAT guide and all that kind off stuff, but i just dont feel liking paying attention in life or anything.
ive got a smple strategy, and im wondering if it works.
i just randomly plug my nose in real life and blow at random times and thats all i do.
can i be a good lucid dreamer like that?

Well, if you 'don't feel like paying attention' in life, then it's probably not going to work for you. Most likely, you will just plug your nose in a dream and your complete apathy toward paying attention will just make you say "Eh...Can't breathe. Oh well. Moving on..."

Reality checks only work if you're actually willing to pay attention to them. Test them, retest them, and actually try to falsify them, to see if you're just passively expecting them to work. If you don't do that, it's not really a reality test. It's just an empty gesture.

Not to mention after becoming lucid you want to practice alertness in order to sustain it. Lucid Dreaming is not a passive sport. Like O said, when you do an RC it only works if you actually stop and consider it intently. If you go through the waking world assuming its the waking world you'll do the same thing asleep. The trick is to get your mind in that state where you're questioning what is real.

Oneironaut pretty much summed it up. Also, remember what "lucid" means by definition - to be conscious or have a clear state of mind. Passively doing RCs will not help; it's all about the mindset. Heck, you could even omit the RC actions altogether and only focus on the awareness, and that would work! But then again, you need some way to confirm if you're dreaming or not.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Well if you want to lucid dream, you have to work for it. No other way around it. You can't just be lazy and decide not to pay attention in life. So no, it wouldn't work. If you want to lucid dream, work.

You might want to start paying attention in life even with lucid dreams aside. You will probably find life is much more fun and interesting if you actualy pay attention instead of just moppin around and not thinking about anything. Then maby you can stop being lazy and get some lucid dreams.

      Happy to help.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about RCs or lucid dreaming.

We all do that. It's just becoming aware of it that causes Lucidity. In waking life and in dreaming life as well. What do they say? As within; so without, as above; so below...

The mind just lives to create and also loves to create. Major function.

If you don't pay attention in life, you wont pay attention in your dream, because in your dream, you think it is life.

It is possible to still get lucid just from doing RCs here and there, but you really have to remember to do them...a few a day may not be enough to make any difference, and like O said, even if the RCs do carry over into your dreams, you might fail them because you aren't being aware enough. I would try using a specific cue for RCs, like every time you go through a doorway or every time you check the time. And when you RC, make sure it's not a two second thing that you forget about immediately--you need to REALLY ask yourself seriously if you're dreamig and use some logic to answer why you may or may not be. It also helps to think about where you are (have you been here before? why are you here?) and how you got there and what you last remember doing (do you last remember going to sleep?).

You can ease off once you've had some already (like a few dozen.) When starting out, you should reality check like its your fucking job. I used to do hundreds a day, and I can lucid dream at will now because of it.

You don't want to do so many that you forget WHY your doing them though. Always pay attention to them, and don't make them a habit you don't realize your doing.

It's really hard to say, because each person is different in how many they need. But I think at least a couple of good RCs (not two second ones) an hour is a goo start. Like I said it's better to have them throughout the day rather than a whole bunch at once to get a certain number all in the same time and place. So I think picking some kind of dreamsign like a door or a clock/watch is a better bet.

I think she means like every time you walk through a door, you do a reality check. It reminds you to do them more often, and whenever you walk through a door in a dream, you chances of lucidity go up. It doesn't have to be a door though. It can be when you go to the bathroom, eat, etc.
