Do your best to stay calm and not do anything when you first realize the dream. Tell yourself to stay calm as you fall asleep, and that once you know you're dreaming, you will continue to dream.

      Hi there my friend,
You're experiencing a problem that is common among lucid dreamers. Just like what KushyBear said, be calm and stay relaxed. When you become aware that you are in a dream, the first thing you should do is stabilize your dream. But don't be like "I'm in a dream! OMG, I must stabilize first! *rubs hands quickly as if there's no tomorrow*, Oh I should spin too! *Spins like tazz the Tasmanian devil* " . When you stabilize your dream, just be relaxed, act as if there's plenty of time. And one last thing, be connected with your dream. Be one with it. Act as if you are the dream itself. Be aware of the dream flow, of how the DCs move and how the Dream Trees sway.

The key here is patience and confidence my friend. Combine this too with daily practice and you'll be good in dream control in no time. Hope this helps

Weakamon pretty much nailed it. Being relaxed is a really good to do while lucid dreaming. Getting all hyped up and crazy will just make you loose your dream. Another tip besides stabilization is to just stop and take a few deep breaths after you stabilize. Just stay where you are for a few moments and calm down. Just let your mind take in the dream scene and get used to the lucid state. Even if you have just stabilized your dream doesn't mean you can just go running around like crazy from the get go. This doesn't mean you can't do anything you want because you can. It's just a better idea to just sit there and chill for a few moments, take in the dream scene, notice what it looks like. Get yourself calm and relaxed and then continue on with your dream. Staying calm in lucid dreams will really help you out.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!

This is normal ^_^ it'll get better in time though, for sure.
Try to stay calm, like said above. Don't freak out. Just take everything in and try to focus.
Yell things out even, like "clarify dream" or random things like that. Try not to get too excited, but after a while, you will naturally get better and better with staying in the dream ^_^

This is a common problem for beginners, so don't worry about it too much. When we have lucid dreams, especially in the beginning, we tend to have them near the end of our REM stage, so we're very close to waking up. That's why when you get lucid, everything fades and you wake up. There are two main ways to deal with it: the first is to stabilize, which means touching objects, rubbing your hands, etc. The second is to train yourself to get lucid earlier in your REM stage, so that way your consciousness is more anchored into the dream and less likely to wake up even if you do get a little excited. The latter really only comes with more practice. The more you practice, the more you get lucid early in the dream.

Like everyone has already suggested, it's important to not become too excited. Just remain calm and focus on the dream.

You should also try and avoid thinking of yourself being asleep in bed, and of your physical body. Sometimes you can remain very calm but you may start thinking "wow, I'm actually asleep in my room right now!"... This can spell trouble, resulting in either a false awakening or a real awakening. You probably don't want the false awakening, but you definitely don't want the real one! The best way to avoid this is by using phrases like "this is a dream" (bringing attention to your immediate surroundings) or "I am dreaming".

Touching objects is a huge help if you want to ground yourself into the dream, stabilizing it and bringing your attention away from real life. If touch is one of your strongest senses in a dream, you definitely want to go around and touch items or buildings. You can also look around at the location by spinning slowly in a circle - don't spin too fast because "dream spinning" quickly only serves to change locations (with the proper amount of visualization) or wake you up.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
