      Hello Fellow Lucid Dreamers.

Hey everyone. I'm DreamReality92. =D I am new here. I am familiar with Lucid Dreaming and I have decided I would like to practice techniques to help myself have lucid dreams and more vivid dreams in general.I thought it would be a great idea to join the forums and be an active member.

I would also like to ask a quick question.

I have just started practicing and I understand it takes time to start having lucid dreams(sometimes months before the first one from my understanding), that doesn't bother me. What I was wondering was how do you know you're on the right track to having lucid dreams? Do your dreams start becoming more vivid as you continue to record and so on? I would hate to realize that I have been doing something wrong months down the road.

Just some extra information, I have been keeping a dream journal for about a week and I have been recording every night. (I am able to remember 1 dream a night at the very least, I usually can remember 2 a night.) I am currently practicing with the MILD technique.

      All Advice is Welcome.

Thank you in advance and I look forward to my time here on the forums.

      Welcome to DreamViews, DR92!

It's good that you've started up a dream journal. I would always suggest an on-site Journal, here at DV, because it's always nice to have some feedback (some of which can be extremely helpful) during your practice. You seem to be on the right track, though. 2 dreams recalled a night is a great number. To answer your question: It kinda differs for everyone. To be honest, you don't want to get caught up in expectations that it's going to be overly difficult or take a long time to lucid dream. Some people hear about the phenomenon and have their first lucid dream within the next couple of days. Know that you could just be one of those people who picks it up very easily. Don't count on it (because that might lead to discouragement, if you don't), but definitely don't look at it as some huge, monumental task. That ideology is going to do nothing but hold you back, in the long run.

I would say the best indicator that you are getting close to lucid dreaming is when you start having those "Wait a minute...something isn't right" moments. Even when you're experienced with lucid dreaming, you will still have them. It's when your mind is right on the edge of realizing that you're dreaming, but you can't quite put your finger on why things seem or feel a bit weird. Keep practicing your awareness. During the day, keep taking note of things that seem strange and out of the ordinary - even if they are just slightly out of the ordinary. Try to form a habit of stopping what you're doing and questioning whether you're dreaming or not, whenever you get that "WTF?" feeling. Once you start becoming analytical in your dreams, you're definitely on the right track.

But, keep in mind that this is just in the instance that you take a while to pick it up. On the other hand, you might have the tiniest encounter with something strange - even tonight - and immediately realize that you must be dreaming. There really is no set length or order of operations. Sometimes, you just know you're dreaming.

Good luck, and enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the all the advice. I actually almost had a lucid dream last night. I remember doing a reality check in one of my dreams( The finger through the palm one) and it didn't work. Then I was about to do the plug your nose and try to breath one but for some reason I decided not to. XD

I will keep at it and make sure not to get discourage. =D

Great advice from Oneironaut Zero. I would just add - what helped me the most, is to occupy my mind with thoughts about LDing, reading DV every day, tutorials and posts and keeping myself excited about the idea of LDing. Anything, that will make it clear to your subconcience, that dreaming is important to you and brings you joy, and your subconcience will do it's best to make you happy.

When you practicing MILD, try to make your intent of having an LD that night a last thought before you fall asleep. Have no doubts, and you will succeed.

Thank you for all the help guys. I am just going let myself ease into it. I will continue to practice the MILD technique. =D

Now something that has been running through my mind for awhile now is if it's possible to practice both the MILD technique and the WILD technique each night.
I feel like it would because you would practice the MILD technique right before bed and then attempt the WILD technique after waking up in the middle of the night.(I naturally wake up a few times during the night). Would it be best just to focus on technique.( especially for beginners?)

Let me know what you guys think about it.

Umm yeah, I think so. I believe that the MILD and the WILD techniques would help to become lucid more if they worked together. Because 1. You are Doing MILD throughout the day. So, 2. When you try WILD since it is the last thing you do before you sleep(even if it doesnt work), you are kinda telling you're brain, " You are now going into sleep mode, so once you are in it, remember that you can control your dreams just like you've been telling yourself all day."
I honestly don't know if my answer is correct because I, myself, am a rookie to controling lucid dreams but I have been trying MILD and Wild together and the end-result is low-level lucid in my dreams. But I'm thinking and hoping that over time they will turn into high-level lucid.
Anyways, Good luck and I hope I've helped!

Thanks for your input Diesel. What you said makes alot of sense, they work hand in hand in a way.

Yes, you can practice them both in a same day, they are not mutually exclusive, since they work on different principles.

MILD/DILD - Mnemonically induced LD/Dream initiated LD - you do RCs, daytime awareness and mantras (mnemonics) to help you become aware that you are dreaming while you having a regular dream. You do this throughout a day, every day. Mantra is your last thought as you normally falling asleep first time and anytime you wake up at night.

WILD is a more "hands-on" approach, when you try to enter a dream directly from being awake. You try it after at least 4.5 h of sleep and coupled with WBTB (wake back to bed). If you try it and it doesn't work, there is always a chance, that you will have a DILD from practicing MILD.
