Sleep paralysis is not as scary if you are expecting it. Knowing what it is will take most of the fear out of it. It is true, you may hallucinate, but isn't that the whole point of dreaming? Think of it as another type of dreaming. It is an adventure 
You can WILD without ever experiencing sleep paralysis. Sometimes you can transition smoothly into the dream, other times it is a bit more rocky, with hallucinations, paralysis, or other hypnagogia. Traditional advice to avoid hypnagogic sleep paralysis is to WILD in your normal sleeping position (not on your back), and divert your attention away from your body.
