      Welcome to DreamViews, Richard!

If you wake up in the morning and can't remember any dreams, you can try to lie completely still in bed. That way your mind will think you want to go back to sleep, and will access the part of your brain where dreams are created. There's a good chance you'll recall something then.

I suggest writing in your dream journal, even if you don't remember any dreams from that night. Write something down like "I could not recall anything". That way you are basically telling yourself that you want to recall your dreams, and your mind should pay more attention to recalling them.

As for techniques, I would recommend starting with the MILD technique or the DILD technique. Both of these techniques don't require you to wake up during the night. Due to its difficulty, the WILD technique is usually only recommended for experienced lucid dreamers. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties with this website, the tutorials don't seem to be accessible at the moment, but this should be fixed soon.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I second MILD. Works very well for me. Also, was this subforum renamed to "Introduction Zone?" I always thought it was the "Newbie Zone."

      Welcome to DV!

People usually wake up at night couple of times after each sleep cycle (right after your dream ends). That's the best time to write down your dream (or at least a few keywords) in the dream journal, that you can keep on the nightstand. If you have not noticed that you wake up at night, mantras can help you. When you falling asleep, repeat to yourself anything like 'I remember my dreams', 'I wake up after a dream and remember it'. It should be a last thought you have before falling asleep. You can also have some water before bed and then every time you wake up. Will help you get up more often.

If you remember older dreams, write those down. It will help you with couple of things-
      1. will tell your mind that dreaming and remembering your dreams is important to you - your mind will do anything it can to make you happy and will help you remember
      2. you can find patterns in your dreams - help you identify your dream signs

I also recommend MILD plus daytime awareness. It's by far the easiest method and it doesn't require you to wake up at night.

You have the right attitude, I'm sure, you'll have your first LD very soon!

If you are excited, and want to get things jump started, you could try taking an afternoon nap. Most people have a REM cycle if they take a short nap in the afternoon. This can be a great opportunity to practice WILD. Experiment with the timing for a few days until you find a time when you remember some dreams during the nap.
