      Rookie Dreamer

      How's it going everyone,

I'm nineteen, studying film and media in Perth, Australia and a gym and basketball junkie. I was actually surprised how lucid dreaming isn't common knowledge, it's crazy. I only found out after discussing it with friends and I thought they were talking about some psuedo-science.

I've been keeping a dream journal for about 8 days now, with random results in terms of me actually remembering my dreams but it is interesting nonetheless. I am having a bit of difficultly with doing my reality checks in my waking hours, which seems to be my biggest problem.

Hoping this forum and community can keep me engaged and focused on the grand prize of achieving lucidity.
      One day.

      Welcome to DV ProNoobi!

Don't worry about the reality checks, you'll get used to them. And really, it's just about being aware more often during your waking hours. Question your surroundings, try to remember how you got to where you are and when. Then you're more likely to questions things in a dream and become lucid.

If you want to read up on some methods to help you (in addition to your DJ, good job on that by the way), check this stuff out: Induction Methods and Techniques. And don't hesitate to ask me or another staff member if you have any questions about anything. Nice to meet you

Welcomes to DV. LDing isn't common knowledge, but we are working to change that. Lucid dreaming is one of most fun activities I have ever done (I like people too much to call it the most fun). Lucid dreaming is pretty much as awesome as you think they will be, since dreams are based on expectations. Lucid dreams however can be even cooler than you imagine, because I think flying around in a forest would be pretty fun, but this afternoon I flew around a forest for an hour, going down dirt roads and to lakes, and it was ah-may-zah! I found two streets that I should have gone down in the dream, but I didn't. :/ One street labeled "Brandon" and the other was labeled "God". haha. Not much for "spiritual experiences when sleeping", but it would be interesting at least.

I would check out our classes, there are lots of people that will help you in there:

Good luck dreaming. If you have any questions ask them here or PM me.

Edit: I also see that you love basketball. Basketball is the best, I am going to play some tonight with some friends of mine.

      Big big welcome to DreamViews!

When it comes to reality checks, OpheliaBlue is right. They're not the most important thing. Still, though, it can never hurt to try and improve your skills, right? You might have better luck remembering them if you create your own RC. For example, I always visualize one of those "green Mario pipes" are right behind me. If I turn around and they are then I know that I'm dreaming and all I have to do is jump into them. They'll take me to wherever I want.

      Good luck!

I haven't been able to use mirror/door portals yet, but it is on my to-do list. Do you often use portals like that?

I do, but I admit it's easy for me because mirrors seem to regularly find their way into my lucids. That said, I've had similar luck transitioning through walls, windows and floors. The next time you're lucid, just phase through the next whatever "barrier" you come across. Why not, it ain't real, so you get to do what you want! If it's too solid, find a way to bust though it anyway. It's from your subC, it ain't better or stronger than you.

Hahaha yes no sport is near. It is actually my intention to lucid dream about playing against MJ and Lebron.

For example, I always visualize one of those "green Mario pipes" are right behind me. If I turn around and they are then I know that I'm dreaming and all I have to do is jump into them. They'll take me to wherever I want.
Ohhh, interesting I might start doing this, I've still had issues with recalling to do them and even them occurring in my dreams but as you guys have said, they're not the most important, so that's good news to me.

I've noticed that my dreams are often action based, I just had a dream about a skyscraper apartment building, I reached floor 70-ish and there were these three guys all camped out in their rooms with unlimited supplies of food and weapons, they earlier cleaned out the entire building of zombies and were just chilling in there. You would think something as crazy as this would get me to question my reality but it doesn't seem so.

Well I hope that having your own reality check will help you remember to do it. If you're still having trouble within a few days and still want to focus on RCs, then maybe you should set a timer to go off, and every time it does you can do a reality check. I can't guarantee that only doing RCs when an alarm clock goes off will help you in the dream world, but it will help you remember to do them in the first place. Eventually you wouldn't need the alarm and could just do RCs whenever you felt like it.

Don't feel bad about that. I once dreamed about going to bed so that I could have a lucid dream. Fail!
