I also don't get what Gab means by thinking you are in a dream when RCing, I mean I do get it but I don't understand how to think you are in a dream when I am perfectly aware I'm awake.
Meditation has been on my mind lately and I was wondering if it has any real benefit in a dream? If so that would be one of my main priorities once lucid.
Welcome to Dreamviews, Rippakone!
You understand the mindset correctly. Think of it this way. Do you ever fantasise? Do you ever think "oooh, what if NASA invited me to be an astronaut"? Or anything that you would love to do. Frankly, for us, this is not likely to happen, right? But it still gives you this funny feeling of happiness and maybe even some frighfull expectation. What if?
So same way, even if you know you are awake, don't think that. Think "what if". Have you heard theory, that this our "reality" could be just a halographic projection? Or that australian aboriginees believe, that this "reality" is just a dream, and our real life is the one we experience in our dreams. You don't have to believe that. Just think "what if". You have to do this, only until your first lucid. Then, you will understand, that no matter how much you are sure that you are not dreaming, it could still be that way.
This mind set is important, because this is what will get you lucid. When in your regular dream, you will suddenly go "what if". Then you maybe do RC and if will confirm you are dreaming, or will be sure, even before the RC.
And meditation is good for teaching you to quiet your mind and other things. But no, for lucid dreaming, it is not required.
What is important is your mind set, your awareness, your mental preparation and intent.
Good luck and Happy dreams
